Kremlin: President Putin is ready to negotiate with Mr. Trump

VTC NewsVTC News08/11/2024

" President Putin has never said anything about changing the goals of the special military operation. On the contrary, he has repeatedly stressed that they remain the same. All this concerns the security interests of our country, the security interests of the Russian people. Therefore, there is no discussion if there are any changes here," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, stressing that Moscow's conditions and stance have not changed.

Mr Putin has stressed that Moscow is ready for dialogue with Mr Trump and said comments the Republican candidate had made about trying to end the war were noteworthy.

Mr Trump also told NBC that he had not spoken to President Putin since his election. When asked about the possibility of a phone call between the two leaders, Mr Peskov added that there was no specific information to report and it was too early to talk about any improvement in US-Russia relations.

On June 14, Mr. Putin proposed many terms to end the special military campaign, such as Ukraine must give up its ambition to join NATO and withdraw all troops from all territories in the four regions that Russia claims sovereignty .

However, Ukraine rejected these conditions, saying they were tantamount to surrender. Shortly afterwards, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy presented a “ victory plan,” which included a request for additional military assistance from the West.

During the election campaign, Mr Trump criticized the scale of US financial and military support for Ukraine and revealed that he could end the conflict within 24 hours, but did not elaborate on how.

President Zelenskiy congratulated Mr Trump on his victory, but the Kiev leader did not know how quickly the Americans planned to end the conflict.

" If it is only quick, it means that Ukraine will suffer losses. I still do not understand how this is happening. Maybe we do not know something and do not see it," Mr. Zelenskiy said.

US-Russia relations are at a record low as Washington supports Ukraine and imposes sanctions on Russia. Putin last spoke to President Joe Biden in February 2022, days before the military conflict broke out.
