On the afternoon of July 16, the final competition day of the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships, Vietnamese athletics ended its gold drought with the first place achievement of the women's 4x400m running team (Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh, Nguyen Thi Huyen and Nguyen Thi Hang).

The Vietnamese girls won with a time of 3 minutes 32 seconds 36, 69% better than when they won the gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc started first, left far behind by athletes from Sri Lanka, India and Japan.
Nguyen Minh Hanh then shortened the gap, before Nguyen Thi Huyen broke away in the third run to put Vietnam in the lead.
Nguyen Thi Hang ran the last lap, trying to maintain the advantage to help the team finish first.
Sri Lanka finished second with 3 minutes 33 seconds 27, India won bronze with 3 minutes 33 seconds 73.
This result helps Vietnam escape empty-handed at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships.
Previously, Vietnam had just won a bronze medal in women's triple jump by Nguyen Thi Huong.
Vietnam is the fourth representative of Southeast Asia to win a gold medal at this year's tournament, after host Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.
Currently, the Vietnamese team is ranked 12th in the medal tally.
The 2023 Asian Athletics Championships will be held from July 12 to July 16 with more than 40 participating countries.
The tournament is considered a qualifying achievement for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Vietnam participates with 20 athletes.
Stars like Nguyen Thi Oanh in the women's 1,500m and 3,000m hurdles, or Nguyen Thi Huyen in the women's 400m hurdles, could not win any medals.
