Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ) Nguyen Hong Minh said that the Athletics Development Project to 2030, with a vision to 2045, is an important content for Vietnam's athletics to implement. At this point, the contents of the Project have basically been completed. We will receive more comments and contributions from professionals and experts in athletics in the upcoming workshop to perfect the content before submitting it to the leaders for consideration.
For the first time, Vietnamese athletics has a cyclical development investment project to achieve breakthroughs. Therefore, those who build the Athletics Development Project to 2030, with a vision to 2045, are waiting for important and practical contributions so that the content can be perfected and ensure professional standards.

2025 is a pivotal year for Vietnamese sports to prepare for many longer-term goals right after that, and so is Vietnamese athletics. Many opinions say that Vietnamese athletics must achieve good results at the 33rd SEA Games to regain the position of Vietnamese athletics. However, the goal of Vietnamese athletics is to achieve specific results in the Asian and international arenas instead of remaining in the lowlands of Southeast Asia. At the 19th ASIAD (competing in 2023), Vietnamese athletics did not win any medals, although before that, when participating in the 18th ASIAD in 2018, we won 2 gold medals and 3 bronze medals.

Vice President of the Southeast Asian Athletics Federation, General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation Nguyen Manh Hung said that solving the problem of professional achievements at the ASIAD arena is necessary for Vietnamese athletics. This is an important sport, receiving attention in sports as well as in the congresses, so Vietnamese athletics will have to change dramatically. Through the years 2023 and 2024, Vietnamese athletics has seen that many faces have slowed down in terms of expertise, so we have not achieved good results as expected.
In addition, recently the source of athletes in the national team has shown signs of slowing down in terms of achievements (veteran athletes have achieved achievements and reached their peak performance), so it is difficult for them to go further in major international competitions in the near future. This is also one of the reasons why the achievements of Vietnamese Athletics in 2023 did not meet expectations.
Sharing about solutions to help Vietnamese athletics develop in the future, Head of the High Performance Sports Department (Vietnam Sports Administration) Hoang Quoc Vinh said: The Sports Administration and the Vietnam Athletics Federation will invest heavily in athletics to achieve breakthrough results in continental competitions as well as the Olympics. The Administration plans to hire foreign coaches to train key groups of athletes. Teams and groups of athletes for each event will be gathered and trained systematically, selected from the young athletes... with the hope of improving their performance in the future.

At the workshop, experts from Vietnam's athletics sector gave many suggestions for developing the Vietnam Athletics Development Project to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation Nguyen Manh Hung said that the Project plays an important role in helping the country's athletics have the most specific development orientation. Therefore, to create a breakthrough, the Project needs to be completed and put into implementation soon.
“We all know that professional training programs always need financial resources. Vietnam Athletics is making great efforts to seek social resources to join hands with the State to implement professional development programs for athletes. The project to develop Vietnam Athletics to 2030, with a vision to 2045, has been carefully developed and recorded many contributions from professionals and managers before being completed,” Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung added.
In the near future, the manager of the Vietnam Athletics Federation expressed his desire to establish a specialized training center for this sport. Currently, football is a special sport in the country that has specialized training centers while many other high-performance sports do not have them. The final deciding factor is funding. Therefore, the plan to call for socialized sponsorship continues to be the focus of the work of the Vietnam Athletics Federation in the new term.
