A farmer has consolidated land, developed more than 11,000m2 of greenhouses and net houses to grow melons and vegetables in a high-tech way. Not to mention, many areas of net houses have been linked to production and built by him in many localities in the province. That is Mr. Mai Chan Nham in Nga Thanh commune (Nga Son) - a person who has spent ten years researching and innovating agricultural production, to become one of the typical examples of developing net houses in Thanh Hoa.

In the Bac Trung village field of Nga Thanh commune, there is a large production area that is green all year round. This is also the largest and most effective greenhouse production model in Nga Son district for many years. Located next to the corrugated iron roofed management house in the middle of the field is a shrimp and fish pond of more than 1,000 square meters. This is also the place to regulate the climate for the production area, while storing water for irrigation of crops all year round. On three sides of the lake are rows of greenhouses running horizontally and vertically, looking from afar, covering a corner of the field in white.
Because he was busy dealing with a partner, his wife, Ms. Mai Thi Nga, led the group of guests to visit the production area. Dozens of rows of yellow melons are cultivated at different times to have products supplied all year round. According to Ms. Nga, the total land area of the production area is 13,000m2, of which the specialized greenhouse area is more than 11,000m2, the remaining area is used to grow 2 crops of melons and 1 crop of various vegetables.
In addition to investing in production infrastructure such as fences and concrete pouring of internal roads, Mr. Nham's family also installed drip irrigation and smart irrigation systems. Just install it on your phone, and at a certain time, the irrigation system will automatically operate, reducing labor and saving water. According to the model owner's calculations, in 2023, the production area's revenue will reach 1.6 billion VND, of which cantaloupe products will be more than 1 billion VND, watermelons, cucumbers, tomatoes will reach 150 million VND... profit will reach 800 million VND, creating regular jobs for 6 local workers with an income of 7 to 9 million VND per month.
In his quest for a new direction, in early 2023 he converted 500 square meters to grow Korean milk grapes. In the first year, this new crop yielded its first harvests, bringing in nearly 150 million VND in revenue, opening up new prospects for the family's agricultural economic development.
Talking about the process of building the production model, the model owner shared: “Deciding to start a business in my hometown, since 2014 I have boldly consolidated my family's rice fields, then rented more land from people who were not interested in production. From growing tomatoes, all kinds of vegetables to have more income, I continued to develop greenhouses and production infrastructure. By 2018, I had built 1,000m2 of greenhouses, and then continued to develop them year by year. While working and accumulating experience, I also determined that the main crop is cantaloupe because the profit is much higher than traditional vegetables."
From his success, in recent years, Mr. Mai Chan Nham has developed additional services for building and installing greenhouses throughout the province. At the same time, he is willing to transfer techniques and share experiences with other model owners. In Nga Son district alone, he has consulted and provided technical support to 20 model owners to develop production in greenhouses and greenhouses. These are also the partners with whom he has signed contracts to jointly produce and consume products. For many years, most of the melon products here have been contracted by Viet Xanh Agricultural Products Processing Joint Stock Company in Ninh Binh province to be sold to the supermarket system of Ninh Binh, Bac Ninh and some provinces in the North. Because they are grown organically, the products of the model have always had stable output in recent years.
In fact, although the production area is large, the environment is very clean. Waste from the trunks and roots of plants after each crop is composted with biological products to make organic fertilizer. As the owner, but also the main laborer and operator of the technical stages of farming, Mr. Nham and his wife still work hard every day to develop production and increase income.
