As part of a series of events responding to the "Make the world cleaner" campaign in 2023 with the theme "Joining hands for a cleaner world", on the afternoon of September 26, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) coordinated with the Provincial Women's Union to organize the forum "Women join hands to protect the environment".

Attending the event were Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission; leaders of the Provincial Women's Union; leaders of a number of departments, branches and units of Ninh Binh province and city and a large number of cadres and women's union members from districts and cities of the province.

Speaking at the forum, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union, said: The "Make the World Cleaner" campaign, launched globally by the United Nations Environment Program in the third week of September every year, is an opportunity to promote and call on organizations, businesses, individuals and the entire community to participate in activities to improve and protect the environment, collect, treat and recycle waste, and refuse to use disposable plastic products and hard-to-decompose nylon bags.

Women's Forum
Comrade Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of Vietnam Women's Union spoke at the forum.

In our country, the amount of domestic solid waste generated is about 61,000 tons/day, of which the amount of waste generated in rural areas is more than 24,000 tons/day. About 85% of the waste is currently treated by landfill technology without being classified at the source, of which organic waste accounts for a large amount.

Household waste is directly affecting the quality of life, people's health and the country's economic growth.

Deeply aware of the role and responsibility in environmental protection, in recent years, Women's Unions at all levels have actively organized many practical and meaningful activities to protect the environment and improve the quality of life.

Many good and creative models and practices that have been built, maintained and replicated by localities have been actively contributing to, creating a major change in the awareness and actions of cadres, women's union members and the community.

As part of a series of events celebrating the "Make the World Cleaner" campaign in 2023, the forum "Women join hands to protect the environment" was held to raise awareness, share information, promote environmental protection activities, especially the classification and treatment of waste at source in women's union members' families and the community.

At the forum, delegates were experts from the Vietnam Center for Startups and Technology Transfer, officials from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the President of the Commune Women's Union.   Exchange and share about the current status of waste collection, classification and treatment in the locality; propose initiatives and solutions to improve waste collection, classification and treatment.

Also within the framework of the program, there were propaganda skits, games, and experiential activities related to the classification and treatment of household waste and plastic waste at the source.
