(NLDO) – The Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau City has directed boarding schools in the area to strengthen the management of meal quality to ensure nutrition for students.
On December 12, speaking to reporters, a leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau City, Ca Mau Province said that a written reminder had been sent to the Principal of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School.
"This morning, the Department of Education and Training of Ca Mau City will have a meeting with Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School and 3 other schools in the area with boarding students. We have directed the principals of the boarding schools to re-examine the food supply contracts to ensure nutrition for the children and strengthen the management of the quality of meals, we cannot leave it like that" - this person affirmed.
Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School, where parents complain about the modest amount of food in lunch
As reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , Ms. PTD, whose child is studying at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School, reported to the press about the quality of her child's meals at the school.
According to Ms. D., when she saw her child lose weight and complain that "the food at school is not good for her child", she looked into it and could not help but feel sorry for the food the school provided. Specifically, on December 11, the students' meal included: rice, taro soup with meat and duck stewed in coconut water. However, the meal only had a little duck meat and a few small pieces of taro in the soup.
The previous photos recorded by the parents also show a similar situation. On December 9, the children's meals included: lemongrass stir-fried meat and chayote soup with meat; on December 10, the meal was fried eggs and pumpkin soup with shrimp. All three meals above looked very modest, so parents were worried about their children's health.
To clarify the information reported by parents, the reporter spoke directly with Mr. Nguyen Kim Hoi, Principal of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School. Mr. Hoi said that the school had received feedback from parents about the quality of meals and had also worked with the contracted unit, Ca Mau Guest House.
A student's lunch is 24,000 VND/day; a snack is 9,000 VND/day (cakes, yogurt, milk...). When the reporter asked the parents about the meal with the above amount but only having rice with fried eggs and a little squash in the soup, Mr. Hoi explained: "Maybe during the division process, the staff of Ca Mau Guest House divided it unevenly, so some had more, some had less. When eating, students who are short will be served extra. After working and reminding, if the above situation continues to happen frequently, the school will terminate the contract with the signing unit."
Ms. Chau Anh, Vice Director of Ca Mau Guest House, acknowledged that the uneven distribution of food portions was due to limited human resources and some dishes were difficult to distribute evenly. When a reporter asked whether a meal costing 24,000 VND a day with only fried eggs and a little pumpkin soup was too expensive, Ms. Chau Anh explained: "Eggs are compensated for the days when we eat beef, shrimp, prawns... so we compensate for this meal and that meal. We will fix the uneven distribution of food after receiving feedback from the school and parents."
