Mr. Thung Van Diep and his wife (Chan Nuoi village, Si Pa Phin commune, Nam Po district) were busy cleaning and arranging furniture in the house that still had the smell of new plaster.
Mr. Diep said that his family had no rice fields, little upland land, and poor soil. To earn more income, Mr. Diep worked for hire in all the villages in the commune and the district, from chiseling pillars, building houses to repairing cabinets, tables, chairs... he did everything.
Working hard and saving for several years, Mr. Diep and his wife have saved tens of millions of dong but have not dared to think about building a new house.
One day at the end of October 2024, while helping to build a house in Tan Phong village, Mr. Diep received news from the leaders of Si Pa Phin commune announcing that "The family was supported by the Provincial Fatherland Front with 50 million VND to build a Great Solidarity house, to be implemented in 2024".
Immediately afterwards, the commune Fatherland Front cadres and the village chief came to the house to advise Mr. Diep and his wife on choosing the type of house that would suit their budget and meet their family's needs. The commune leaders discussed in detail the human resources that Mr. Diep and his wife could mobilize to help build the house and committed to sending union members and youth of the commune to help; the family would not have to worry about human resources during the entire time of building the house.
Thanks to the support of relatives and dozens of union members and youth from villages in the commune, in less than 2 months, the house built on level 4 of Mr. Diep and his wife was completed.
On the morning of April 8, comrade Vu A Bang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and the working delegation of the Fatherland Front of Dien Bien province witnessed the inauguration ceremony and put the new house into use.
At the ceremony, Mr. Thung Van Diep and his wife, Ms. Lo Thi Lai, were moved to express their thanks to the benefactors, officials and people of Nam Po district, Dien Bien province for their support to their family.
"Our family vows to strive to improve and contribute to the development of the village," said Thung Van Diep.
Together with the support of 50 million VND and the help of the villagers to build houses like Mr. Diep's family, the families of Mr. Ho A Chia, Chang A Cua, and Sung A Cua (Huoi Y village, Ma Thi Ho commune, Muong Cha district) had to contribute to the construction of new houses with the help of many people.
Mr. Ho A Chia said: Huoi Y village has no car road, no national electricity grid, the materials for building the houses of 3 families were transported by the villagers. Although there were many difficulties when having to use motorbikes to carry tons of cement, bricks, sand, and iron frames on a steep trail of more than 2km, everyone still enthusiastically helped until all 3 houses were completed on January 15 so that they could celebrate the Lunar New Year of At Ty.
Comrade Mua A Vang, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Bien province, closely directed the implementation of housing construction for the poor.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dinh Thuan, Chief of Na Bung Border Guard Station, shared that during the ceremony of handing over 2.2 billion VND to support the construction of Great Solidarity houses for poor families in the two communes of Na Bung and Vang Dan (Nam Po district) on January 4, comrade Mua A Vang requested border guards and soldiers, along with the Party Committees and authorities of the two communes, to urgently deploy and make efforts to overcome difficulties, giving priority to helping poor families have new houses.
Carrying out the assigned tasks, dozens of officers and soldiers of Na Bung Border Guard Station worked actively for two consecutive months to complete all 44 houses for poor households in two communes.
“The officers and soldiers of Na Bung Border Post not only directly participated in the construction but also regularly promoted the significance of the Great Solidarity House Building Program. This has created a ripple effect in the community.”
As a result, people from 10 villages voluntarily contributed labor and materials to help 44 families have more resources to build decent houses, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dinh Thuan added.
Comrade Mua A Vang said that the entire funding to support poor households in the border area to build houses this time (15 billion VND) was sponsored by Vietcombank - Son La branch, Hung Yen Province Fund for the Poor, Housing and Urban Development Corporation, and Dien Bien Province Fund for the Poor.
With a support level of 50 million VND/house along with money contributed by families or additional support from the community, the total cost of building 300 houses reached 30.7 billion VND.
During the implementation process, there was always the support of the Party Committees and authorities of 30 communes in 4 districts and the people, officers and soldiers of the armed forces. The total labor contributed by officers, people and soldiers of the armed forces was up to 4,473 working days; the value of raw materials and materials supported by the local people was more than 2 billion VND.
Comrade Mua A Vang emphasized that with the difficult conditions of the border area, without the help of thousands of people from the community, Party committees, and local authorities, it would be difficult for people to have stable housing.
Dien Bien’s completion of 300 houses for poor households in the border area after a short period of implementation not only helps the poor have new, solid housing, but also demonstrates the strength of solidarity and mutual love. The Great Solidarity Houses are not only a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also a motivation for the poor to rise out of poverty, contributing to building a prosperous life in the border area.
