Iranian cinema impresses, Vietnamese artist receives Promising Young Actor award

Winning three important awards, Iranian cinema reaped rich rewards at the Closing and Awards Ceremony of the Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) 2024 held at the Hoan Kiem Theater last night (November 11).

Taking place from November 7-11, the 7th HANIFF with the theme "Cinema: Creativity - Take Off" has affirmed its prestige and is a symbol of the creative and integrated spirit of Vietnamese cinema and 51 cinemas in the world, organized more and more professionally, creating its own mark in the thousand-year-old capital of Hanoi.

Speaking at the Closing and Award Ceremony, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Department of Cinema (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), said that this year's HANIFF had 800 Vietnamese and international delegates attending; 117 films from 51 countries and territories were screened at 3 cinema complexes: National Cinema Center, BHD, CGV (with 87 screenings).

In-depth professional activities such as two seminars "Spotlight on German cinema", seminar "Development of film production exploiting historical themes and adaptations from literary works", exhibition "Vietnam's heritages recognized by UNESCO - Experience through cinema footage", film production project market...

In addition, the exchange sessions between the film crew and the audience before or after the screening at the cinemas created a vibrant and colorful atmosphere, attracting a large audience of Hanoians and international tourists, contributing to the exchange and learning between Vietnamese and international filmmakers, promoting the development of tourism in the capital Hanoi and Vietnam.

The HANIFF 2022 Organizing Committee is deeply aware of the host country's responsibility in welcoming international delegations, ensuring the event takes place safely, professionally and inspiringly.

With the criteria of honoring cinematic works of high artistic value, rich in humanity, with outstanding and unique international and Vietnamese creative marks, HANIFF VII named and awarded 10 awards to outstanding films, actors and directors.

Among them, Iranian cinema made a strong impression when winning three important awards: Best Feature Film, Best Feature Film Director, Best Actor with the film Hard Shell .

With her excellent performance in the film Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story directed by Trinh Dinh Le Minh, Vietnamese actress Ngoc Xuan was honored in the category of Promising Young Actress.

As a new actress, Ngoc Xuan said she was very happy to have the opportunity to participate in HANIFF 2024 and win the first award in her film career. This is an encouragement for the actress's next artistic career path.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee presented awards to the Project Market, Favorite Vietnamese Film Award and Certificates of Merit to directors and screenwriters of films about Hanoi, contributing to the socio-economic development of the Capital, participating and responding to HANIFF 2024 according to Decision No. 5891/QD-UBND dated November 11, 2024 of the Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee.

It can be seen that HANIFF 2024 has left a strong impression on international and Vietnamese film artists, creating a warm artistic atmosphere for the capital's audience and a desire for creativity for Vietnamese and international film artists.

Not only did the closing ceremony and award ceremony in the capital city conclude the film festival, it also left a lasting impression on domestic and international film audiences with outstanding art performances, blending folk and contemporary sounds.

-Best Short Film: Colombia's "A Bird Flew";

-Best Director for a Feature Film: Director Majid-Reza Mostafavi, Iran's “Hard Shell”;

-Best Actor in a Feature Film: Actor Payman Maadi, Iranian film “Hard Shell”;

-Best Actress in a Feature Film: Actress Tiina Tauraite, Estonian film “8 Views of Lake Biwa”;

-Jury Prize for Feature Film: Estonian film “8 Views of Lake Biwa”;

-Best Short Film Director: Director Nasim Forough, Iran's “Typesetter”;

-Promising young actor (18 to 35 years old): Actress Ngoc Xuan, Vietnamese film "Once Upon a Love story";

-Jury Prize for Short Film: “The Rubber Tappers” from Cambodia;

-Asian Film Commissions Network (AFCNet) Award for Feature Film: “Liar” from the Russian Federation.

2. Vietnamese Film Award loved by the audience in the "Contemporary Vietnamese Film Program"

-The movie "Our Blossom" - a cooperation film between Vietnam and Hungary.

3. Project Market Awards

-First prize: Project “Red lights blue angels” by director Afsana Mimi (Bangladesh);

-Jury Prize: Project “Rahma” by director Faysal Soysal (Türkiye).
