Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of August 1, a parent whose child took the entrance exam for grade 10 literature at Thai Binh High School for the Gifted, Thai Binh province, said that although after receiving the results of the 10th grade entrance exam, the family found that their child's math score was unusually low, the family did not file a request for a review.
Accordingly, this candidate failed his wish to enter a specialized school when his total score was only 37.6 points, while the standard score to enter grade 10 of Thai Binh High School for the Gifted was 38 points.
"When my child finished the math test in the morning, the teacher who directly taught my child checked the test and the answers, and the teacher gave my child at least 8 points. But when we received the test results, my child got 6.25 points in the regular math test. We were surprised.
Although there has been a lot of information recently reflecting that the 10th grade math and literature exam scores in Thai Binh are being distorted after the re-examination, my child has passed the second choice to Nguyen Duc Canh High School, so the family does not want to re-examine again," said this parent.
Similarly, another parent whose child took the entrance exam for grade 10 specialized in math and information technology, taking the exam at the Examination Council of Thai Binh Specialized High School, said that this candidate got 1.5 points in specialized math, 9 points in regular math (total score more than 41.1 points in the non-specialized system).
With the above results, the candidate failed the entrance exam to a specialized school and passed the entrance exam to Nguyen Duc Canh High School.
"The press has been writing a lot about the 10th grade entrance exam in Thai Binh province these past few days. I've been following the news, but I haven't reviewed it yet because my child has passed. If I review it, the score might drop even more. If my child's math score goes up by 3 points, he will also pass the math and IT exam," said this parent.
Another parent whose child registered for the first choice exam to enter grade 10 specializing in mathematics and information technology, taking the exam at the Examination Council of Thai Binh High School for the Gifted, said that his child got 0 points in specialized mathematics and 7 points in regular mathematics. However, this parent said that his child had passed the exam to Le Quy Don High School, so the family did not file a re-examination request.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, principal of Thai Binh High School for the Gifted, said that in the case of 6 students who passed the school's re-examination, the school has received their admission notices, so they will carry out admission procedures according to the correct process.
After the review, a candidate's score increased by 5.75 points.
The 10th grade entrance exam in Thai Binh province took place from June 6 to 8. On June 16, students started looking up their exam scores and found that their scores were unusually low. Many parents and students then submitted appeals.
The review results showed that many candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Thai Binh (mainly candidates taking the exam for Thai Binh Specialized High School and Nguyen Duc Canh High School - the top schools in the province) had their initial announced scores for literature and math subjects of only 2-4 points, but after the review, they increased to 8-9.5 points.
In particular, there was a case where a candidate's math exam score for grade 10 was announced to be only 3.75 points, but the re-examination result increased to 9.5 points (a difference of 5.75 points).
Regarding this incident, representatives of some parents whose children took the 10th grade entrance exam in Thai Binh province for the 2024-2025 school year filed a complaint against Mr. Nguyen Viet Hien - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Binh province - and those involved in the admission work in the 10th grade entrance exam.
On the evening of July 31, the People's Committee of Thai Binh province issued a decision to temporarily suspend Mr. Nguyen Viet Hien, Director of the provincial Department of Education and Training, from July 31, to serve the inspection of the organization of the entrance exam for grade 10 high school.
The period of suspension from work is 15 days.
On the same day, the People's Committee of Thai Binh province issued Decision No. 1236/QD-UBND assigning Mr. Pham Van Nghiem, member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, to be in charge of managing the activities of the Department of Education and Training during the time Mr. Nguyen Viet Hien was temporarily suspended from work.
