In a peaceful corner of the suburban district of Dan Phuong, Hanoi, there is a small library called Happiness. The library was founded by book lovers. They work in many different professions but share the same belief: Books are the door that opens the world.

Ms. Luong Thi Huong Thanh in Tho An commune, Dan Phuong district has been a regular visitor to the library since the early days. “I am very happy to have a library right in my residential area. My two children love reading. I can clearly see the positive changes in them when they come to the library regularly: They write better, express themselves more clearly and have knowledge about many fields,” Ms. Thanh shared.

With a love for history, Tran Bao Quyen, grade 5, Tho An Primary School, is excited every time she goes to the library: “I not only get to read many good books but also participate in useful activities organized by the teachers and staff at the library. I often invite my friends to come read books together.”

Happiness Library was founded by Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Thuy, Mr. Nguyen Van Bien and many book lovers in July 2022. Ethics-wisdom-willpower are the three core values that the brothers and sisters aimed for when establishing the library. The library currently has 2 reading locations in Tho An and Tan Hoi communes, Dan Phuong district, with more than 6,500 books, more than 80 volunteers and more than 2,500 readers coming to make cards.

As a history teacher at Tram Troi Secondary School, Hoai Duc District, Mr. Nguyen Van Bien, a founding member of the Happiness Library, is always concerned about how to help children love self-study and self-discovery: “Books are both teachers and friends. If you have the habit of reading books, it is a wonderful way to self-study.”

Happiness Library also carries out many charity and environmental protection projects, donates books to students in difficult circumstances, gives gifts, and visits lonely elderly people. “We are implementing a project to build bookcases at schools in mountainous areas to bring knowledge closer to children in remote mountainous areas. Happiness is when we can instill in children a love of reading culture,” said Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Thuy, founding member of Happiness Library.

Realizing the value that the library brings, Mr. Le Huu Hoa, Secretary of Party Cell 2, Tho An Commune, often visits the library and encourages his children and grandchildren to go to the library to read books every weekend. "Hopefully in the future, there will be more benefactors joining hands to support the library, thereby expanding the model to other localities," said Mr. Hoa.

Hanoi currently has more than 1,000 libraries, basic reading rooms and 15 private libraries serving the community. This is an important network that helps people access knowledge conveniently and free of charge. Master Kieu Thuy Nga (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) assessed that the Happiness library and other community libraries play an important role in improving people's knowledge, developing reading culture and building a learning society.

In particular, for many groups such as students, the elderly, and workers, community libraries like this have become familiar destinations to seek information, expand knowledge, relax the mind, and help arouse a passion for books among all classes of people.

According to Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga, to develop and maintain an effective community library network, it is necessary to ensure financial resources, facilities, creative activities, community participation and digital technology application.
