Prestigious destination for medical students to practice

The Provincial General Hospital first received 20 students of maxillofacial surgery (course 11, Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy) for graduation internship.

In March 2025, the Quang Ninh health sector received 250 final-year medical students from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy to do their graduation internship at 3 major hospitals in the province: Provincial General Hospital, Bai Chay Hospital and Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics. This is one of the key activities in the training cooperation program between the Quang Ninh health sector and medical and pharmaceutical training institutions, creating an effective bridge between theory and practice.

With modern facilities, a team of experienced doctors and a systematic training system, the Provincial General Hospital is an ideal destination for medical students to practice their skills, gain experience and prepare for a professional career. During this period, 95 students from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy were assigned to do graduation internships in many specialties such as: Cardiology, general internal medicine, general surgery, trauma, pediatrics... Within 9 weeks, the students not only observed but also directly participated in examining, diagnosing, treating and caring for patients under the dedicated guidance of medical specialists.

“This is a turning point in your learning journey. Clinical practice helps medical students understand that medical ethics and soft skills are just as important as professional knowledge,” shared Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Provincial General Hospital.

In addition, the Provincial General Hospital also received 20 more students majoring in dentistry (course 11, Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy) for graduation internship. This is the first group of students majoring in dentistry to be accepted by the hospital for internship. This marks the expansion of multidisciplinary training, while affirming the hospital's in-depth practice capacity and increasingly perfect clinical training system.

Bai Chay Hospital received 84 students (K41, Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy) for graduation internship.

At Bai Chay Hospital, 84 final year medical students from Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy were assigned to practice in 9 departments of internal medicine and surgery. During the practice, 32 highly specialized doctors and lecturers of the hospital always accompanied and closely guided the students. In addition to expertise, students were also trained in professional ethics, communication skills and medical examination and treatment regulations, the fundamental factors to become good doctors in both "heart" and "vision".

At Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, 71 obstetrics and pediatrics students are learning how to become trusted companions of mothers and children. With two specialized departments, obstetrics and pediatrics, students are guided in practicing examination, monitoring, counseling and patient care. In addition, they are also trained in behavioral skills, practicing tact and subtlety in communicating with patients.

Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital is also one of the facilities highly appreciated for its work of receiving students for practice. Every year, the hospital welcomes over 1,000 students from schools such as: Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thai Nguyen; Quang Ninh Medical College, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh... From the end of March to the beginning of April 2025 alone, the hospital welcomed nearly 180 medical, nursing, and testing students. Doctor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Deputy Director of the Hospital, emphasized: “We always create the best conditions for interns to learn and develop. Each practice session is not only a professional lesson, but also a valuable practical experience for their career journey”.

In recent years, Quang Ninh has devoted a lot of resources to investing in medical infrastructure. In the period of 2020-2025, the province has allocated more than 6,000 billion VND to upgrade medical facilities. In 2023 alone, a series of key projects such as the Geriatric - Rehabilitation Hospital, Lung Hospital, and Provincial Center for Disease Control will be completed and put into use with a total capital of 1,208 billion VND.

In addition, the work of attracting and training to improve the quality of medical human resources has always been focused on. To date, the whole industry has 8,739 medical staff; including 2,080 doctors (13 PhDs). Each year, the whole industry receives over 3 million medical examinations and treats nearly 380,000 inpatients. This is a good environment for medical students to have the opportunity to experience and improve their practical knowledge.

The fact that medical facilities in Quang Ninh proactively cooperate in training and expand the scale of student reception not only contributes to improving the quality of human resources, but also demonstrates a long-term strategy for developing medical human resources, meeting the increasing demand for people's health care.
