According to Thanet Tantipiriyakit, chairman of the Phuket Tourism Association, the resort island has now become a destination for quality tourists, as total tourist spending has increased above the level recorded in 2019, the time before the Covid-19 pandemic, despite a slight decrease in the total number of visitors.

According to Thailand's Tourism Ministry, Phuket recorded revenue from visitors to the island of 246 billion baht ($7.5 billion) in the first half of this year, while tourist spending is expected to reach 50 billion baht ($1.5 billion) per month during the two peak months at the end of the year.

Thanet said Phuket will also welcome more direct flights in the final quarter of this year, including flights from destinations in Kazakhstan, India, Cambodia and Saudi Arabia. The total number of tourists to Phuket this year will reach 14 million, the same as in 2019, compared to 11 million in 2023.

Tourists from China remain the largest group of visitors to Phuket, followed by tourists from Russia and India. Meanwhile, the European and Australian markets have seen growth but the increase in tourist numbers has been insignificant.

The resort island expects international events in Phuket next year to attract more visitors, notably the international contemporary art festival Biennale Phuket 2025, which will run from November 2025 to April 2026.

VOV.VN - Nearly 5 million international tourists visited Cambodia in the first three quarters of 2024, an increase of more than 22.2% over the same period last year.
