Vietnam - Cambodia trade aims to soon reach the target of 20 billion USD Vietnam imports a type of agricultural product from the Cambodian market increasing sharply

According to preliminary data from the General Department of Customs, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Cambodia reached 6.829 billion USD in the first 8 months of 2024, an increase of 14.39% over the same period last year.

In August 2024, export turnover to Cambodia reached 465 million USD, up 1.5% over the previous month. In the first 8 months of 2024, export turnover reached 3.5 billion USD, up 3.9% over the same period last year.

Textiles and garments are the leading group of products in terms of export turnover to Cambodia. In August 2024, the export turnover of this group reached 94.8 million USD, up 24.2% over the previous month. In the first 8 months of the year, it reached 590.7 million USD, up 10.2% over the same period last year, accounting for 2.4% of the proportion.

Next is the export of iron and steel of all kinds, in August 2024 it reached 64 million USD, up 15.4% compared to July 2024; in 8 months of 2024 it reached 491.2 million USD, down 5.4% over the same period, accounting for 7.5% of the proportion. Textile and footwear raw materials and accessories in August reached 35 million USD, up 20.1% compared to July 2024, in 8 months of 2024 it reached 244 million USD, up 30.3% over the same period last year, accounting for 16.6% of the proportion.

Petroleum exports to Cambodia in August reached 17.92 million USD, down 27.3% compared to the previous month. In the first 8 months of 2024, they reached 225 million USD, down 31.8% over the same period, accounting for 17.03% of the total.

Fertilizer exports to this market in August reached 20.78 USD, down 31.35% compared to the previous month, and in the first 8 months of 2024, they reached 153 million USD, down 8.7% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 31.99% of the proportion. Plastic products in August reached 18.02 million USD, down 21.71% compared to the previous month, and in the first 8 months of 2024, they reached 151 million USD, up 50.57% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 3.5% of the proportion.

Vietnam's paper and paper product exports to Cambodia in August 2024 reached 14.8 million USD, down 2.25% over the previous month, and in the first 8 months of 2024 reached 108 million USD, up 10.7% over the same period last year, accounting for 7.64% of the proportion; other base metals in August reached 12.08 million USD, down 36.43% over the previous month, and in the first 8 months reached 107 million USD, up 56.64% over the same period last year, accounting for 3.79% of the proportion.

Commodities with export turnover growth in the first 8 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year: Wood and wood products increased by 64.7%; rubber products increased by 102.1%; coffee increased by 74.7%.

In recent years, economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia has achieved very meaningful results. Accordingly, Vietnam is one of Cambodia's leading trade partners.

In 2023, export turnover reached 4.8 billion USD, down 15.9% over the same period last year. Items with export turnover growth in 2023 compared to the same period last year: wood and wood products increased by 76.1%; glass and glass products increased by 15.8%.
