Photographers, make-up artists... are busy "running shows"
Mr. Dinh Quang Huy, a freelance photographer in Hoa Lu city, said that his yearbook shooting schedule has been almost full since the beginning of April. Every day, he takes photos for 2-3 classes, constantly traveling between schools in the province, editing photos in the evening to return the products on time.
“From after Tet to May is the peak season for taking graduation photos. The weather is nice, students are not yet in the stressful exam preparation period, so they can take advantage of the opportunity to capture memories. There were days when I worked on the album until 2-3 am, although it was hard work, my income was 3-4 times higher than usual,” Huy shared.
No less busy are the makeup artists. Ms. Hoa Duong, a makeup artist in Nam Thanh ward, said: This year, students prefer light makeup styles, pink, earthy orange tones, Korean style. With the ancient, country concept, the makeup, hair, and accessories are also more elaborate. Makeup service prices range from 150,000-300,000 VND/person.
If in the past, yearbook photos were only associated with white ao dai and black vests, now students prefer creative concepts such as ancient costumes, Korean school, countryside, etc. Stylist services - coming up with ideas, coordinating outfits, and creating concepts have also flourished.
Dao Hoang Bien, who runs a yearbook filming group in Ninh Binh, said: In addition to traditional photography, many classes also hire yearbook video filming services with their own concepts. The cost for each video is about 2.5-3 million VND.
Along with stylists, shops renting ao dai, ancient costumes, and photo props are also entering the peak season. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, owner of a shop renting photo props in Hoa Lu city, shared: "From the beginning of April until now, customers have booked almost full schedules. There are classes that book a month in advance to rent beautiful costumes." The service of printing class boards, setting up slogans, and mini backdrops is also chosen by many classes, creating more jobs for printing and decoration establishments.
Opportunities from "farewell season"
Despite its short duration, the yearbook season is creating a distinct “career season” for young people and freelancers. Many young people start their own businesses here, forming full-service groups, developing photography skills, video editing, and content creation.
Mr. Tuan Anh, a freelance photographer, shared: “This year, I cooperated with a few students, each doing a part. It not only reduces the workload but also creates opportunities for young people to learn a trade and earn extra income.”
Nguyen Thi Huong Giang, a 12th grader at Hoa Lu A High School, said: “We came up with the idea of taking yearbook photos after Tet. Each person had a job, one chose the concept, one contacted the photographer, one ordered the items. Each person contributed 400,000-500,000 VND, to both preserve memories and have fun.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, homeroom teacher of class 9B, Ninh An Secondary School (Hoa Lu city) commented: “Taking yearbook photos, if organized properly, will help students unite, express their feelings and show gratitude to the school. The school always creates conditions but must ensure safety and not affect learning.”
Ms. Phan Thi Lan Phuong, parent of a 9B student at Ninh An Secondary School, shared: “At first, I was worried about the cost, but seeing my child excited and the whole class agreeing, I supported it. As long as the children are happy and can preserve their school memories.”
In addition to the meaning of preserving memories, this activity also contributes to promoting food and beverage services, travel, and photo location rental, especially at famous tourist destinations such as Trang An, Tam Coc, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, etc.
Each yearbook season not only brings lingering emotions to senior students but also opens up a vibrant time for accompanying services. From photographers, make-up artists, stylists to young people starting a business with MV filming services, all are contributing to creating a creative and colorful economic picture.
