Information from Yen Bai province on March 19, chickenpox is spreading in some schools in this locality. The first case was detected on March 4 in a third grade student at Tan Thinh Primary and Secondary School (Yen Bai City) with symptoms of mild fever, blisters on the abdomen and back. By March 18, this school had recorded 11 students with chickenpox.

At the same time, chickenpox cases were also detected in some schools and residential areas. Since March 4, Yen Bai has recorded 140 cases of chickenpox in Yen Bai city, Yen Binh, Luc Yen, Tran Yen, Van Chan, Mu Cang Chai districts and Nghia Lo town.

Currently, the epidemic is still at risk of spreading to both children and adults. Of which, there has been 1 death (a 42-year-old female patient) in Nga Quan commune, Tran Yen district with a diagnosis of chickenpox and ARDS pneumonia (acute respiratory distress syndrome), multiple organ failure.

According to the family, the patient had a history of cerebral aneurysm 2-3 years ago. Nearly a month ago, the patient felt tired and had scattered blisters, fever, sore throat, and pain in the lumbar spine, but still went to work normally. On February 28, the patient had to go to Yen Bai General Hospital for examination and treatment, with the initial diagnosis of acute pharyngitis - increased liver enzymes, then diagnosed with chickenpox complications with secondary infection and was transferred to Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi) for treatment but died on March 6.

Immediately after this death, the Yen Bai Provincial Department of Health issued a document requesting the prevention of chickenpox, timely detection of cases, and prevention of spread, prolongation, and outbreak into an epidemic.

According to Mr. Lai Manh Hung, Director of the Center for Disease Control of Yen Bai province, although it is a benign disease, chickenpox can cause dangerous complications, which can lead to death or leave sequelae. Epidemiologists note that if students have chickenpox, they need to stay home from school for 7 to 10 days to avoid spreading it to those around them; take warm baths, wash their bodies gently, avoid breaking blisters or scratching the skin, and change clothes daily. People with symptoms of severe coughing, difficulty breathing, fatigue, and lethargy should go to the nearest medical facility immediately.

As reported by SGGP Newspaper, due to the influence of the changing weather, the humid weather has reappeared many times. Currently, in Lao Cai province, there has been a chickenpox outbreak with about 75 cases in schools (including students and teachers).
