On October 15, information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Bac Kan province said that up to now, 6/8 districts and cities of this province have been infected with African swine fever; only 2 localities, Bac Kan city and Cho Moi district, have not had the disease.
According to the report of the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), there are currently 73 outbreaks in 40 districts of 14 provinces nationwide that have not passed 21 days. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 343 outbreaks in 38 provinces and cities nationwide; the total number of pigs destroyed is more than 34,000.
Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health, said that the main reason for the resurgence of African swine fever is that biosafety management and livestock farming have not been given due attention. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has allowed the use of African swine fever vaccines, but localities have not increased vaccination rates.
