A trusted address for poor women

Established in 2009, after 15 years of operation, the Tinh Thuong Microfinance Organization (TYM) - Phu Tho Branch has helped many officials, members, and women, especially poor women, access loans with preferential interest rates to develop their businesses , helping them overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives. It has become a trusted address for women in general and poor and vulnerable women in particular.

Visiting the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien in Thanh Luong area, Tuy Loc commune, Cam Khe district – one of the recipients of the "House of Love" support program – reveals the significance of the concrete actions taken by TYM - Phu Tho Branch to help her family build a new, spacious home. Ms. Lien's family is a poor household in the commune; her eldest child was born prematurely and has poor health, requiring frequent treatment and surgery at the hospital. Ms. Lien herself lacks a stable job, so the family's expenses depend solely on her husband's meager salary. Despite their best efforts, the family did not have the means to build a sturdy house.

Understanding her wishes and circumstances, in 2023, TYM - Phu Tho Branch provided 40 million VND to build a "House of Love" for her family. Along with the family, local authorities, relatives, and extended family also provided financial support, materials, and labor to build a new house for her family with a total area of ​​over 90m2, valued at over 280 million VND.

Ms. Lien couldn't hide her joy and emotion as she shared: "Thanks to TYM - Phu Tho Branch, the Women's Union at all levels, the local government, and my relatives and friends who have cared for and helped my family, we have been able to build a solid and spacious house. I am very happy and send my sincere thanks to TYM - Phu Tho Branch and all the organizations and friends who have cared for and helped my family to work and produce with peace of mind, striving to escape poverty."

We visited the animal feed business of Ms. Vu Thi Thu Phuong's family in Vinh Phu area, Thuy Van commune, Viet Tri city - one of the members who accessed TYM's loan capital to develop their economy. We learned that Ms. Phuong and her husband had previously worked abroad, but the work was unstable, so they returned to their hometown to start a business. In 2022, knowing that TYM - Phu Tho Branch provided loans to members with average incomes to develop production and business, she boldly borrowed capital to pursue her dream of developing her family's economy.

In a conversation with us, Ms. Phuong shared: “In 2022, thanks to a 50 million VND loan from TYM and our family's savings, my husband and I boldly invested in building a livestock feed business to supply small-scale farms in the area. In addition, utilizing our garden, I also raise over 100 broiler chickens, generating an income of over 200 million VND per year.”

Not only Ms. Lien and Ms. Phuong, but many other female members have also received support from TYM - Phu Tho Branch to build charitable houses and access preferential loans to boost economic development through livestock farming, production, and business, stabilize their lives, improve the status of women in the family and society, and contribute to socio-economic development and poverty reduction in the locality...

Thanks to access to loan capital from TYM, Ms. Vu Thi Thu Phuong (on the right), from Vinh Phu area, Thuy Van commune, Viet Tri city, has invested in developing a livestock feed business model, earning over 200 million VND per year.

Always standing by our members, women

Mr. Tran Van Tuyen, Director of TYM - Phu Tho Branch, stated: "Over the past period, TYM - Phu Tho Branch has consistently followed the leadership and guidance of superiors and the regulations of the State Bank of Vietnam and the TYM organization; focusing on developing scale, innovating operations, improving the quality of products and services, and supporting and reaching out to members who are poor women in the province."

To date, the number of participating members exceeds 12,135 customers. TYM - Phu Tho Branch has a Branch Office, 4 transaction offices operating in 7 districts, cities, and towns, 77 communes, wards, and townships, 514 residential areas, and 414 clusters (an increase of 4 communes/wards and 14 clusters compared to 2023). In 2024, the Branch adjusted and reduced lending interest rates 5 times to create conditions for customers to flexibly access loan capital; supported disbursement for over 5,900 customers with a total amount of more than 223 billion VND, outstanding loan balance reached 147 billion VND, outstanding savings balance reached 106 billion VND, and the repayment rate reached 99.99%. In addition, TYM also promoted savings activities, creating a saving habit for members, building self-owned capital for each family, and reducing loan interest rates...

Along with improving the quality of its products and services, TYM also actively participates in social activities in the area. In 2024, the branch spent over 468 million VND on community activities serving social welfare, such as: supporting the purchase of equipment for 4 units: Huong Non Commune Health Station (Tam Nong District), Phu Lo Secondary School (Phu Ninh District), Xuan Vien Kindergarten (Yen Lap District), and Huong Lung Kindergarten (Cam Khe District) with a total of 60 million VND; supporting 40 million VND to build a "House of Love" for customer Nguyen Thi Hang, Mit area, Yen Lap town, Yen Lap district; visiting and giving gifts to 39 member families and policy beneficiary families on July 27th; TYM awarded 6 scholarships to support customers' children in pursuing their dreams of attending university and junior high school, and 35 scholarships to encourage children of members with outstanding academic achievements and difficult circumstances, totaling 42.5 million VND; and donated gifts to 74 TYM customers affected by typhoon No. 3, with a total cost of 37 million VND...

In addition, the branch also coordinated with the Women's Union at all levels to organize training to improve the capacity of 412 loan group leaders and group leaders; and 6 thematic workshops on topics such as "Raising awareness about preventing and combating plastic waste," and methods for building linkage models and selling products to customers...

Through effective support and partnership activities, TYM - Phu Tho Branch has helped female members and women in the province, especially poor and disadvantaged women, overcome difficulties, confidently develop their economy, stabilize and improve the quality of their family life, contributing to poverty reduction and ensuring social security in the locality. In the future, TYM will continue to expand its operational area and develop its membership; coordinate with Women's Union branches at all levels to disseminate policies on loan products to TYM members and other women... so that TYM truly becomes a "companion" and a reliable address for its members and women.
