Schools and Thanh Nien Newspaper have joined forces in a spirit of non-profit community service, resulting in a highly widespread and effective exam counseling program. Each year, the program involves 50-60 universities and colleges, reaching dozens of provinces and cities nationwide and attracting hundreds of thousands of students. It is also one of the two official career counseling programs that leaders from the Ministry of Education and Training attend at the opening ceremonies.
Students have a great need for information regarding exams, career guidance, and university admissions, especially since exam and admissions policies and regulations are frequently adjusted and improved over the years. Approximately 1 million students take the high school graduation exam annually, but according to regulations on student placement after high school, only 60% of high school graduates are admitted to universities. This program helps the Ministry of Education and Training communicate its policies and regulations regarding graduation exams and admissions; and helps universities and colleges disseminate information about their admissions processes to prospective students.
The Exam Season Counseling Program is constantly being improved, innovated, and its effectiveness is amplified through diverse counseling methods. From classroom counseling sessions to career fairs, the number of participating students can range from a few dozen students in a class to 7,000-8,000 students in a college admissions counseling fair. This includes direct counseling sessions at schools with 2,000-3,000 students to online counseling answering exam and admissions questions for an unlimited number of students. This is in addition to articles in print media, which also make the Exam Season Counseling Program richer and more relevant.
In particular, Thanh Nien Newspaper has also been very successful with its online television counseling program, considered an extension of the Exam Season Counseling program. The first online television counseling program was implemented by Thanh Nien Newspaper in 2014 and to date is perhaps the only online television counseling program that has established its own distinct brand.
In the coming years, as students under the 2018 general education program take their graduation exams, there will be many new regulations regarding graduation exams and university admissions. The Thanh Nien Newspaper's Exam Season Counseling program will certainly be a reliable resource to support universities, colleges, high schools, and students.
