Ho Chi Minh City National University admits technical error when announcing competency assessment exam scores

Ho Chi Minh City National University (VNU) has just informed about a technical error in announcing the second round of the 2024 VNU-HCM Competency Assessment Test (CAP) scores.

Accordingly, on the afternoon of June 13, based on information reflecting the abnormality of the second round of the National High School Examination results, the Standing Committee of the Examination Council conducted a comprehensive review of the processes from marking to announcing the results to candidates.

The marking process was carried out in accordance with regulations, ensuring accuracy and security at each stage, from scanning exam photos, processing exam photos to determine raw scores, converting scores using specialized software, reviewing, and reporting to the council before announcement. The work of storing exam photo data, raw scores, and exam results was strictly carried out, ready for review and inspection.

HCM City National University admitted that a technical error occurred during the process of uploading exam results to the system for announcement to candidates. This was due to a lack of synchronization in time between the two uploads of exam results to the system.

The first time downloads the results of all exams that have not been updated with any unusual cases, the second time downloads the results of exams that have been processed unusually.

Therefore, during the period from the afternoon of June 10 to the afternoon of June 12, 2024, some candidates received incomplete exam results. Currently, the results on the system are accurate and complete results for all exams.

“Although this unfortunate technical incident did not affect the candidates’ exam results, it did have a negative impact on their psychology, as well as making it difficult for candidates to use their high school graduation exam results to register for admission,” said Ho Chi Minh City National University.

To facilitate candidates, Ho Chi Minh City National University will extend the registration period for re-examination until the end of Monday (June 17).

The review scores will be announced before June 20. The registration period for admission based on the results of the National High School Graduation Examination will also be extended from June 15 to June 21, 2024.

The National High School Graduation Exam (2nd round) was organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University in 14 provinces and cities including: Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Tien Giang, An Giang and Ca Mau with 34 exam clusters and 43 exam locations. Of which, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the largest number of exam registrations with nearly 21,700 candidates.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh - Director of the Center for Testing and Assessment of Training Quality of VNU-HCM, said: "In this second round, 40,455 candidates registered to take the exam. Of which, 29,023 candidates participated in the first round and will continue to take the second round."

Currently, 109 educational institutions have registered to use the results of the National High School Graduation Exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University for admission, including: 9 member units of Ho Chi Minh City National University, 91 universities and 9 colleges outside the Ho Chi Minh City National University system.
