According to plan, by 2026, the Southern region will have more than 900km of expressway completed and put into operation.

The Ministry of Transport has just sent a document responding to voters in An Giang province about investing in transport infrastructure in the southern region.

According to the Ministry of Transport, in recent times, with the attention of the Party, National Assembly, Government, and Prime Minister, the expressway system in the Southern region has made strong progress.

Before entering the 2021 - 2025 term, the entire region had only 91km of highway.

Up to now, the expressways: Trung Luong - My Thuan, My Thuan - Can Tho, My Thuan 2 bridge, Phan Thiet - Dau Giay have been put into operation, increasing the total length of expressways in the region to 223km (an increase of 132km).

Expressways under construction include: Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City, Ben Luc - Long Thanh, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau, An Huu - Cao Lanh, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang, Can Tho - Ca Mau, Cao Lanh - Lo Te, Lo Te - Rach Soi. Total length 712km.

"It is expected that by 2026, the total length of the expressway system in the southern region will reach 935 km," the Ministry of Transport informed.

Also according to the Ministry of Transport, in order to strengthen regional connectivity and create momentum to promote regional socio-economic development, many expressways have been and are being studied for investment, expected to be completed in the 2026-2030 period.

Some routes have been decided by competent authorities to invest and allocate enough state budget capital for implementation such as: Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh, Dau Giay - Tan Phu - Bao Loc - Lien Khuong, Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai, My An - Cao Lanh.

Some routes have been assigned by the Prime Minister to localities for investment research such as: Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4, Go Dau - Xa Mat.

"By 2030, the expressway system in the southern region will be basically invested according to the plan, meeting the medium and long-term transportation needs of the region," the Ministry of Transport affirmed.
