Hanoi is taking the lead in developing night tourism products. These tourism products are being increasingly improved and expanded, contributing to creating a system connecting night entertainment spots for tourists. In August 2024, Ngoc Island - Truc Bach, Ba Dinh District was recognized by Hanoi as a city-level tourist destination.

“Truc Bach Night” is considered one of the new and unique night tourism products, bringing both lively and interesting experiences, both new and familiar to domestic and international tourists.

The special feature of “Truc Bach Night” is that the entire program space is designed with the colors of the subsidy period. For the first time in Hanoi, the entire event space is set up like a film studio with the background of a real neighborhood, with tram cars, department stores… helping visitors to return to the memories of one of the special periods of the country.

Besides the subsidized booths specially designed with different themes, the soul of the whole program is Tram Line 6 - "Hanoi Street Museum". On the occasion of the Department of Tourism promoting Hanoi night tourism 2024, Ba Dinh district launched the Tram Line 6 tourism product with the first 4 carriages.

Each carriage will carry a typical culinary theme of Hanoi and Vietnam such as rice - paddy - rice, pho - vermicelli - noodles, kitchen - cupboard - tray... The carriages seem to form trains carrying heritage, "mini museums" of culture and cuisine, a notable highlight for tourists who want to find old memories and want to learn about the history and culture of the country.

During the days of the “Truc Bach Night” series of events, many locals and international tourists came to visit and experience. Interestingly, the space of a subsidy period not only attracted the elderly to reminisce, but also attracted many young people to learn about the life of the old Hanoians.

Dressed in vintage style, Nguyen Thuy Lien (Hoan Kiem district) excitedly shared: “When I heard about the Truc Bach Night event, I was very curious and invited a group of friends to come here to experience and take pictures. The exhibition space and the experiential activities here really made me happy and satisfied. Above all, this is also an opportunity for us young people to better understand the lives of our grandparents and parents in the past and to appreciate what our generation is enjoying today.”

Hanoi Street Museum

This is the first time Hanoi has a "museum" that vividly recreates the streets, space, and culture of the subsidy period and is displayed on the street. Unlike regular museums where visitors come to learn about history and products displayed in a fixed space, coming to the "Hanoi Street Museum", visitors can visit and experience the street life of Hanoians with very familiar artifacts such as over 100-year-old electric poles, public water pumps, neighborhood bulletin boards, means of transportation of Hanoians, street economic occupations... through unique artistic activities, enjoying rich cuisine and stories typical of Hanoi, enjoying the vibrant, bustling atmosphere of interactive live performances.

The series of interactive community experience activities - Cultural Harmony - is an indispensable part of the event "Truc Bach Night" under the Metro Line 6 project - "Hanoi Street Museum". Specifically, these are the experience shows: "Flow of Pho", "Fragrance of Com", "Old Fragrance of Tea", "Culinary Memories of the Subsidy Period", "Vietnamese Phin", interactive live show "Street Stories of the Subsidy Period", music festival and beer street cuisine during the subsidy period...

Sharing about the process of conceptualizing and implementing the Metro Line 6 project, Chairman of Truc Bach Ward People's Committee Nguyen Dan Huy said: “When we started implementing the project, we wanted the train cars to be a miniature museum containing stories about culinary culture. After the first train car was put into trial operation and received support and interest from many people and tourists, we thought that we should develop it further. Each train car not only conveys stories about cuisine but also recreates the culture, occupation, lifestyle, behavior... of the people of Trang An - Hanoi. Metro Line 6 - "Hanoi Street Museum" is an open museum, a "living" museum and a community museum that will always be moving and changing so that visitors coming here can not only see but also directly participate in experiential activities, thereby gaining a deep understanding of the culture and people of Hanoi".

With the romantic and poetic scenery of Truc Bach Lake, the event creates an ideal relaxing space for visitors to immerse themselves and admire the beauty of the natural landscape. It can be said that Metro Line 6 - "Hanoi Street Museum" is a unique tourism product of Ba Dinh district.

Create a new playground for the community

Every time coming to Truc Bach, visitors can upgrade their experience with activities that are more deeply connected to culture. Increasing interaction and bringing deep experiences to visitors when coming to Ngoc Island - Ngu Xa Food Street is a new way of doing tourism, bringing about uniqueness and attracting people and visitors.

Therefore, in the past year, Ngoc Island - Ngu Xa Food Street has gradually become a playground for the community. This playground attracts groups of young people to perform art, play music, or this is a gathering place for groups of friends with the same interests. Because here, they see the intersection between Retro and Vintage styles. This is a very unique feature of this neighborhood.

A representative of the Ba Dinh District People's Committee said that after 2 years of operation with its own path, the Dao Ngoc - Ngu Xa night food street and the flower garden projects around Truc Bach Lake with cultural and historical reminders have brought visitors new experiences combining cuisine, landscape and cultural heritage. Thereby, it has contributed to promoting the development of 145 more businesses in this area. The budget revenue from service businesses increased by 245% compared to before, showing the socio-economic development effects that the neighborhood brings.

According to the representative of Ba Dinh District People's Committee, in order to contribute to increasing the attractiveness to tourists and creating a unique space for the Pearl Island - Ngu Xa area, it is expected that in the first quarter of 2025, Ba Dinh District will continue to invest in paving the roadbed of Nguyen Khac Hieu and Ngu Xa streets, part of the night food street, to bring tourists interesting experiences in the near future.

The “Train Line No. 6” project under the “Leng keng heritage” project is a unique initiative to restore the old tram line into a space to display and experience Hanoi's culture and culinary heritage.

It is expected that the Metro Line 6 project will have 8 carriages. After officially operating 4 carriages at the Opening Ceremony of the Metro Line 6 tourism product, Truc Bach ward will deploy the remaining carriages in 2025. The project not only evokes traditional values and cultural beauty of Hanoi but also contributes to preserving and promoting heritage values.

In addition to developing unique tourism products in Hanoi, the team implementing the “Leng keng di het” project also carries out the charity project “Leng keng to school”. The project was born with the purpose of renewing the life cycle of bicycles that are still in good condition but are no longer in use. These bicycles are painted and decorated by artists and then given to children in the highlands, helping to shorten their journey to school and make them happier.
