On the evening of March 13, a representative of the Vietnam Road Administration informed VietNamNet about the organization of traffic flow on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway.
Accordingly, at the meeting on handling shortcomings on expressways and connecting and sharing database of journey monitoring and traffic monitoring systems held on the same day, agreeing with the comments to improve traffic safety on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, the Vietnam Road Administration directed the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board to organize vehicle counting according to regulations.
From there, classify vehicles and analyze unfavorable factors (terrain conditions, weather, traffic infrastructure, etc.) to evaluate, analyze, research, and develop a traffic diversion plan on the Cam Lo - La Son route.
The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board was assigned to submit a traffic diversion plan to the Vietnam Road Administration and Road Management Area II before March 17.
Road Management Area II, based on the traffic diversion plan submitted by the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, will organize appraisal and report to the Vietnam Road Administration before March 18.
“After receiving the report on the traffic diversion plan of Road Management Area II, the Vietnam Road Administration will hold a meeting on March 20 with relevant authorities and associations to review and evaluate as a basis for further implementation,” informed a representative of the Road Administration.
Supporting the decision to separate traffic on the route, a traffic expert said that this should be implemented soon on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway. The expert suggested that trucks and container trucks should be banned from entering this route. Passenger cars should be banned from running at dangerous night hours, when accidents often occur.
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board informed that from March 14, it will start construction of items to adjust and supplement the traffic safety system, and expand many emergency stop locations on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway.
The adjustment is being piloted on the first 37km of the Cam Lo - La Son expressway section through Quang Tri.
The contractors will add reflective studs on the road centerline, reflective markers on both sides of corrugated iron guardrails, and add some sign clusters at narrow locations (outside the area expanded to 4 lanes). At the same time, they will add more signs, traffic instructions for overtaking areas, preparation for and completion of overtaking points, intersections on the route, etc.
Notably, at the locations where the roadbed is completed with a scale of 4 lanes, the functional unit will expand the emergency stopping strip with a layer of crushed stone and asphalt, with each expansion point being at least 250m long and up to 5-6m wide, reaching the full scale of the roadbed for 4 lanes.
Since Tet, the Cam Lo - La Son expressway has been plagued by serious traffic accidents. In just 22 days (up to March 10), the route has seen two catastrophic traffic accidents that have left five people dead and dozens injured.
