On New Year's Eve, Da Nang environmental sanitation workers just want to 'go home early'

On the night of February 9 (New Year's Eve), leaders of the People's Committee of Da Nang City divided into many working groups to visit, congratulate and encourage the forces to carry out tasks throughout the 2024 Lunar New Year.

At the Da Nang Tet flower market, a working delegation led by Mr. Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, visited and gave lucky money to 100 environmental workers who cleaned and sanitized the area.

Sanitation workers work hard to clean up at Da Nang flower market on New Year's Eve

Here, workers are urgently cleaning up the flower market so that the Tien Son Sports Palace area is clean before New Year's Eve. Busily cleaning, Ms. Dam Thi Thanh Nga (54 years old, living in My An Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District), an environmental worker, said that in 23 years of working, she rarely gets to celebrate New Year's Eve with her family.

"When I finish work, the clock usually marks the new year. Some years, I clean the flower market and sweep the streets until 4-5 am before returning home," Ms. Nga said.

The female sanitation worker just wants to finish work early so she can go home to celebrate New Year's Eve with her family.

This year, the flower seller returned the premises early, so Ms. Nga and her colleagues quickly cleaned up. "I hope to return home a year before New Year's Eve. I promised my children that I would celebrate New Year's Eve with my family this year," Ms. Nga said.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Huy, Deputy General Director of Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company, said that this year the company mobilized about 100 workers to clean the Tet flower market. The number of workers participating in cleaning the flower market increased compared to previous years to quickly finish cleaning before New Year's Eve. Previously, throughout the time the flower market was operating, workers worked 24/7.

"This year, it is expected that by 9:30 pm on the 30th of Tet, the cleaning will be completed and the premises will be returned clean. The company encourages workers with benefits and pays bonuses before Tet. On New Year's Eve, we give lucky money and cook free meals for workers so they can work with peace of mind," Mr. Huy informed.

Busy cleaning up the environment before New Year's Eve

At the visit, Mr. Le Quang Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said that the economic difficulties have significantly affected the lives of workers in general, and environmental workers in particular. "However, the city still tries to ensure the lives of workers with all its resources. With today's gifts, we hope that the workers will be motivated to work and contribute greatly to the clean and green environment of Da Nang," Mr. Le Quang Nam emphasized.

Efforts to serve people watching fireworks on New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve, Da Nang City organized 3 fireworks display locations to serve residents and tourists during the transition between the old year and the new year. In Hai Chau District, fireworks were displayed at the intersection of Bach Dang and Binh Minh 6 Streets; in Lien Chieu District, fireworks were displayed at the land opposite to the east of the Lien Chieu District Administrative Center; the third display location was at the beginning of the street west of the headquarters of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Vang District.

On the afternoon of February 9, at the fireworks gathering points in Lien Chieu District, Mr. Tran Phuoc Son, Permanent Vice Chairman in charge of the People's Council of Da Nang City visited, wished a happy new year and acknowledged the efforts of the units, especially the officers and soldiers of the Da Nang City Military Command who directly prepared the conditions for the New Year's Eve fireworks display.

At the fireworks site, Mr. Tran Phuoc Son asked officers and soldiers to carefully check the plans to avoid errors during the firing process; coordinate with forces to maintain order, prevent fires and explosions, and ensure absolute safety for city residents and visitors to enjoy the artistic and beautiful fireworks display.

According to the representative of the Da Nang City Military Command, up to this point, preparations for artillery positions, security forces, technical staff, security and order, and traffic safety have been basically completed by the units, ready to meet the requirements for the New Year's Eve fireworks display.

Fireworks will be launched at all locations from 0:00 on February 10, lasting 15 minutes. At the locations, the Military Command will use 2,000 high-altitude fireworks and 120 low-altitude fireworks. The fireworks display method is artistic, without background music, and uses the FireOne firing system and the L100S semi-automatic fireworks firing system... creating unique lighting effects, serving people to admire the fireworks, welcoming the new year of Giap Thin.
