Durian grading at Long Thuy enterprise in the 2024 crop season |
Accordingly, recently, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to strengthen propaganda and guidance for organizations and individuals to apply appropriate technical cultivation processes and post-harvest measures to meet China's requirements as well as closely monitor growing areas, and have taken 759 durian samples from 2023 to the end of 2024.
However, currently, designated domestic testing units are temporarily suspending the acceptance of samples for analysis. Meanwhile, in Lam Dong province, there is no unit that meets the requirements for analyzing food safety indicators for durian for export, especially Auramine O (yellow O substance) to meet the needs of analyzing heavy metal indicators and yellow O substance in durian products for export as required by importing countries.
Units and individuals of the province must send samples to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi , Da Nang, causing costs and prolonging the waiting time for analysis results, affecting the production and business of the establishments as well as the direction of production and handling of violations during inspections by competent authorities.
In order to strengthen the management of durian product quality to ensure stable consumption for people and increase export value, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee requests the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to: Direct the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development to send affiliated analysis centers designated by China and Vietnam to support Lam Dong province in conducting inspections of durian products for export, especially for the 2025 crop year; study the establishment of branches of analysis units located in Lam Dong to facilitate sampling and analysis.
Support and guide Lam Dong province to carry out procedures to have a unit in Lam Dong province designated by Vietnam and China to analyze export products, with priority given to durian products exported to the Chinese market.
Provide guidance on methods to determine causes and measures to prevent and overcome durian contamination with heavy metal Cadmium. Direct specialized units to research, identify and provide guidance on active ingredients permitted for post-harvest treatment and preservation of durian and advanced post-harvest technology solutions to preserve durian and other fruit products.
