Accordingly, on April 12, 2024, the Department of Industry and Trade sent a document to relevant departments, branches and localities to coordinate in reviewing and handling weighing stations that do not comply with legal regulations on purchasing planted forest timber in the province.

The review results show that in districts, towns and cities, there are a number of weighing stations operating to purchase planted forest wood, contributing to creating favorable conditions for forest growers to consume products at competitive prices.

However, there are still some weighing stations that do not meet the conditions for purchasing forest timber according to regulations. These weighing stations mainly violate the location of the weighing station which does not comply with the provisions of the law on land (using land for the wrong purpose); using the road traffic corridor in violation of regulations, causing traffic insecurity.

Not ensuring fire prevention and fighting conditions, environmental factors; not conducting periodic weight inspections; not conducting business registration, not fulfilling tax obligations as well as other related legal regulations. Of which, Hai Lang district has 2 establishments, Vinh Linh district has 6 establishments, Gio Linh district has 3 establishments, Huong Hoa district has 2 establishments, Dakrong district has 5 establishments.

On April 17, 2024, the Department of Industry and Trade presided over and coordinated with relevant departments, branches and People's Committees of districts and towns to organize a meeting to discuss a plan to completely handle weighing stations that do not comply with the above legal regulations.

Based on the summary of the review results and opinions at the meeting, the departments, branches and localities unanimously proposed that the Provincial People's Committee direct the People's Committees of districts and towns to review and suspend the operations of weighing stations that violate legal regulations.

Directing functional departments and branches to coordinate with the People's Committees of districts and towns to guide owners of weighing stations to fully implement legal procedures related to land, construction, road connection, fire prevention and fighting, environment, equipment inspection, business registration, tax obligations to the State, as well as other regulations before resuming operations; strengthening inspection, supervision, prevention and handling of spontaneously formed weighing stations to purchase planted forest timber, not complying with legal regulations.

Instruct the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to study and develop plans for developing warehouse service points, weighing stations and logistics points in accordance with regional planning and local land use planning to create conditions for these warehouse service points and weighing stations to operate in accordance with regulations. Thereby, contributing to promoting trade and service activities, as well as solving the output problem for agricultural and forestry production, creating jobs and income for local people.

Regarding this issue, previously, Quang Tri Newspaper had many articles reflecting the situation of illegally established weighing stations to purchase planted forest wood in the area. This practice causes tax losses, disrupts security and order, and creates unhealthy competition between establishments and businesses engaged in the production and processing of planted forest wood.
