On June 24, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that this unit has just sent a document to the Thu Duc City People's Committee proposing a plan to renovate and improve the area of the small islands at the intersection of Ring Road 2 - Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (Thu Duc City).

According to the Department of Transport, previously, on April 19, the unit sent a document to the People's Committee of Thu Duc City regarding this issue. In particular, the Department of Transport requested the People's Committee of Thu Duc City to promptly send written comments to the Department of Transport before April 30 to synthesize and report to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for consideration.

However, up to now, the Department of Transport has not received any comments from the People's Committee of Thu Duc City.

Also according to the Department of Transport, Article 18 of Circular No. 12/2020/TT-BGTVT dated May 29, 2020 of the Minister of Transport regulating the organization and management of automobile transport activities and road transport support services has provided guidance on the organization, management and criteria for pick-up and drop-off points on fixed routes.

However, due to high traffic density on fixed inter-provincial passenger transport routes in the city, arranging pick-up and drop-off points on the road for passengers to get on and off the vehicle does not ensure traffic safety.

Proposed location of the pick-up and drop-off islands at the intersection of Ring Road 2 - Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.

To meet the travel needs of passengers, land next to the road is needed to organize pick-up and drop-off points.

Therefore, in order to create conditions for stable passenger transport business activities, ensure traffic order and safety and convenient and safe travel for passengers... The Department of Transport requests the People's Committee of Thu Duc City to study and propose adding pick-up and drop-off points on fixed inter-provincial routes to the plan for renovation and embellishment in the land area belonging to the islets at the Ring Road 2 intersection (without affecting the existing operation on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway).

The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway ends at the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 intersection (Vo Chi Cong Street). This is the gateway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with provinces such as Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Thuan... so the traffic volume is dense. In addition to container trucks carrying goods, the number of tourist cars and passenger cars traveling on this route is increasing.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport also submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee a proposal for investment in the project to expand the road connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2).

Accordingly, the project will expand the section from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2 with a total length of 3.2km, with a complete scale of 8 lanes. The total investment of the project is expected to be 938.9 billion VND from the city budget.
