At noon on June 7th, more than 96,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City finished their Mathematics exam for the 2023-2024 10th grade entrance exam.

Speaking to VTC News , Mr. Nguyen Phan Nhat Tan, Deputy Head of the Mathematics Department at Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1), commented that with this year's exam, many students with strong academic abilities will not find it difficult to score a perfect 10 in Mathematics.

According to Mr. Tan, the exam structure remains unchanged compared to previous years.

Specifically, questions 1, 2, and 3 cover basic knowledge, suitable for the average student, making it easy to score full marks. Question 4, however, has appeared in previous entrance exams and does not pose a challenge for candidates.

Question 5 involves identifying linear functions and reading graphs. This type of problem has been frequently reviewed by teachers. Furthermore, this type of problem also appears in sample exams. If candidates study diligently, it's very easy to score points on this question.

In question 6, if candidates are careless and don't read the question carefully, this is a question where they can easily lose points because they forgot to round to the nearest whole number. In this year's exam, questions 7 and 8 are designed to differentiate students' abilities.

"In my opinion, many students with average academic ability might skip these two questions. If students with above-average academic ability read and understand the questions carefully, they can get a high score. However, question c of question 8 is the one that determines whether a candidate will get a perfect score of 10 or not, " Mr. Tan assessed.

Regarding the overall exam, Mr. Tan believes that students with above-average academic ability will achieve 6.5 points or higher, those with good or excellent academic ability will easily score 8 points or higher, and those with excellent academic ability will likely get a perfect 10 on this exam.

"With this exam, if students were thoroughly reviewed by their teachers using the syllabus from previous years' 10th-grade entrance exams, they would be very confident in their answers. Overall, this year's math exam has a high level of differentiation," Mr. Tan assessed.

According to VTC News reporters at the exam site at Hoang Dieu Secondary School (Tan Phu district), all the candidates breathed a sigh of relief as they had completed the exam.

Quach Thien Truc, a student from Dong Khoi Secondary School (Tan Phu District), said: "I found this year's exam easier than the practice exams I've taken. With this exam, plus doing well on the Math and English exams yesterday, I think I have a high chance of getting into Nguyen Khuyen High School (District 10)."

Similarly, La Hoang Thien Tri, a student from Tan Thoi Hoa Secondary School (Tan Phu district), is confident that he will score 7 points or higher in mathematics.

"I feel very relieved after finishing the last exam of this year's exam. I hope I will get into Mac Dinh Chi High School (District 6)," Tri said.

This afternoon, approximately 6,000 candidates registered to take the entrance exam for specialized and integrated 10th-grade classes will take the specialized or integrated subject exam, which lasts 150 minutes.
