(CLO) South Korean First Lady Kim Keon Hee is in a worrying health condition after her husband, President Yoon Suk Yeol, was arrested on charges of rebellion related to the imposition of martial law.

Ms. Kim Keon Hee is currently alone at the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, amid requests for medical treatment from aides.

A People Power Party (PPP) lawmaker, Kwon Young Jin, who visited President Yoon before his arrest, revealed: "I saw the first lady and her face looked terrible. I felt sorry for her."

The arrest warrant for President Yoon was issued after an hours-long standoff at the presidential palace, despite efforts by about 30 ruling party lawmakers to stop it. Meanwhile, Ms Kim was said to be so exhausted that aides urgently asked her to be hospitalized.

"She is alarmingly thin. She can barely eat and has to maintain her health with medication," a presidential office official revealed.

The opposition Korea Reconstruction Party has asked the South Korean Justice Ministry to impose an exit ban on Ms Kim, alleging she may have played a role in the rebellion or been an accomplice. Lawmaker Cha Gyu Geun said: "The government should urgently conduct a thorough investigation and prevent Ms Kim from leaving the country."

Since President Yoon's arrest, the first lady has rarely appeared in public, especially after she faced an investigation last July over accepting luxury gifts and participating in stock manipulation.
