Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi proposed that the Dominican government create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to carry out civil, industrial and energy projects in Dominica.

Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi joined the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife to attend the G20 Summit and conduct a number of bilateral activities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from November 16-19 and pay an official visit to the Dominican Republic from November 19-21.
At the meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the President of the Dominican Republic, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi spoke about promoting cooperation between Vietnam and the Dominican Republic in the construction sector.
Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi said that in 2023, Vietnam's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 5.05% over the previous year, of which the growth rate of the Construction industry increased by 7.06% over the same period, contributing 0.51 percentage points to the country's GDP growth rate.
The national urbanization rate calculated by urban area is 53.9%. The proportion of urban population supplied with clean water through centralized water supply system is about 96%. The average housing area of the whole country is 26m2 floor/person.
According to the Minister of Construction, Vietnam wishes to promote cooperation between the two countries in the field of construction materials production. Vietnam has strengths and experience in construction materials production, accordingly, the total annual cement production reaches more than 90 million tons, meeting domestic consumption and export requirements.
Vietnam's cement industry has a history of more than 120 years with modern, environmentally friendly technologies. Vietnamese cement has been exported to many countries around the world.
In addition, Vietnamese enterprises have also invested in producing high-quality, green, environmentally friendly construction materials such as: Porcelain, sanitary equipment, construction glass, tiles, etc. These products have been present in more than 40 countries and territories and have been present in the Americas for more than 10 years.
"With the experience of Vietnamese enterprises and the potential of the Dominican Republic market, we wish to further promote cooperation in the field of construction materials production," said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi.
In addition, Vietnam's construction material production not only meets domestic demand but also exports to countries around the world. In 2023, the total cement production output will be about 89.4 million tons, of which domestic consumption will be about 56.8 million tons and exports will be about 32.6 million tons.
Ceramic tile output is about 360 million m2 , domestic consumption is about 300 million m2 , export is about 60 million m2 . Sanitary ceramic output is about 13.5 million products, domestic consumption is about 11.5 million products, export is about 2 million products.
The production output of construction glass reached about 241 million m2 , domestic consumption was about 153 million m2 , and export was 64 million m2 . Typical enterprises operating effectively in the field of construction materials production in Vietnam are Viglacera Corporation and Vietnam Cement Corporation.
The Minister of Construction affirmed that Vietnamese construction enterprises are capable of consulting, designing, constructing, and installing equipment for industrial works, civil works, and energy works.
"In the coming time, we hope the Dominican Government will create conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to cooperate and join forces to carry out civil works, industrial works and energy works in Dominica," said Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi.
Mr. Nghi also said that on the afternoon of November 21 (local time), the Ministry of Construction met with the Ministry of Housing, Environment and Works of the Dominican Republic to discuss and determine the content of cooperation that both sides are interested in and to plan for the implementation of future cooperation activities between the two sides.
In particular, the two sides exchanged cooperation in the field of construction materials production and promoted cooperation between construction enterprises of the two countries, contributing significantly to promoting comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Dominica.
