Proposal to provide an additional 1 million tons of coal in addition to the signed contract volume for EVN

VietNamNetVietNamNet14/06/2023

On June 14, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) issued a statement clarifying the "lack of 1 million tons of coal for thermal power".

EVN said that in the first months of 2023, thanks to the coordination and efforts to supply coal from TKV and Dong Bac Corporation, it has made an important contribution to EVN's production and supply of electricity for economic development and serving people's lives.

According to EVN, all generators using anthracite coal (produced by TKV and Dong Bac Corporation) have operated at maximum capacity according to system requirements, no generator has stopped/reduced capacity due to lack of coal.

The amount of coal supplied to electricity increased sharply compared to the same period.

TKV alone has supplied 17.18 million tons of coal to power households, reaching 44.6% of the plan, equal to 113.2% of the same period, an increase of 2 million tons of coal compared to the same period, exceeding the progress according to the signed contract.

According to the updated plan, the mobilized output in June and July 2023 of coal-fired thermal power plants, especially power plants in the Northern region, will be mobilized at maximum capacity and output.

Specifically, the total expected output mobilized from EVN's anthracite coal power plants in June and July is 12.33 billion kWh, corresponding to the coal demand of 6.03 million tons.

Therefore, in early June, EVN held a working session with TKV and Dong Bac Corporation, proposing that these two units provide an additional 1 million tons in addition to the signed contract volume, ensuring enough coal for electricity production needs in June and July 2023.

"EVN will continue to actively coordinate with TKV and Dong Bac Corporation to find solutions to provide enough coal for electricity production in accordance with the Prime Minister's direction," the group informed.

TKV commits to supplying 15% more coal for electricity production . TKV General Director Dang Thanh Hai committed that in the last 6 months of the year, TKV will ensure the supply of about 18.7 million tons of coal and the whole year is expected to reach 39.7 million tons, an increase of 15% over the same period in 2022.
