Proposing localities to tighten inspection and supervision of online drug purchase and sale

On April 21, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) sent a dispatch to health departments regarding strengthening inspection and handling of violations in pharmaceutical business activities.

Accordingly, the department stated that recently, the mass media has reported on the phenomenon of buying and selling drugs, including prescription drugs and drugs subject to special control, on social networking sites.

To strengthen the management of pharmaceutical business by e-commerce, ensure safety for users, and provide enough quality drugs for people, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Department of Health to direct and coordinate with units to strengthen inspection and supervision of pharmaceutical business establishments in the area regarding the purchase and sale of prescription drugs and drugs subject to special control that are not in accordance with regulations and strictly handle violations (if any); strengthen inspection and supervision of retail establishments to detect and prevent pharmaceutical business at places that are not business locations permitted by competent authorities (currently online buying and selling)...

Thanh Hoa Provincial Police seized many types of counterfeit drugs.

Departments of Health need to increase information and propaganda for people to only buy medicine from legal pharmaceutical businesses, medicine with full information, clear origin; avoid buying medicine based on inaccurate information on social networking sites; raise vigilance to join hands with state management agencies in the fight against counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, and commercial fraud.

Recently, the Drug Administration of Vietnam sent a dispatch to the Departments of Health to notify 21 types of counterfeit drugs in the case that Thanh Hoa Provincial Police had cracked down on. Of the 21 counterfeit drugs seized, 4 were identified as counterfeit drugs licensed for circulation by the Ministry of Health , including: Tetracycline, Clorocid, Pharcoter and Neo-Codion. The remaining products did not match any drugs on the list that had been granted a registration license for circulation by the Ministry of Health.
