At the workshop, Ms. Tran Thi Trang, Acting Director of the Health Insurance Department, Ministry of Health, said that in order to synchronize policies with the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, which will take effect in 2024, as well as the strategy for public health care, the Ministry of Health proposed to expand the scope of people's health insurance benefits. Specifically, it proposed that the Health Insurance Fund pay for examination and screening for early detection of a number of diseases such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, hypertension, diabetes, hepatitis, etc. for people with health insurance cards. Currently, the Ministry of Health is assessing the impact and effectiveness of screening and early detection when including the above diseases in the list of diseases covered by the Health Insurance Fund.

On the side of Vietnam Social Security, Mr. Le Van Phuc, Head of the Health Insurance Policy Implementation Board, highly appreciated the benefits of paying for screening and early detection of some diseases, but said that the Health Insurance Fund is currently limited and is focusing on paying for medical examination and treatment. Therefore, if the Health Insurance Fund pays for screening and early detection of some diseases, the appropriate level of health insurance contributions must be considered.
