In the era of technology explosion and the emergence of many social networking platforms, anyone can become a presenter. Especially the great attraction of the MC profession is that more and more young people are joining radio and television channels, media companies...

This also puts pressure on MCs in mainstream radio and television stations, requiring each person to innovate themselves and know how to take advantage of social networks to keep audiences on their programs during each broadcast hour.

Over the years, MC Hong Hanh has gradually become a familiar face to many listeners of FM90 Channel, creating her own personal mark. Journalists and Public Opinion Newspaper had a conversation with MC Hong Hanh to better understand her connection to the field of radio and television as well as the work she undertakes every day.

Keep learning and listening

+ It is known that Hong Hanh graduated from the Military University of Culture and Arts, how did you start at Hanoi Radio?

- In 2019, Hanoi Radio organized a program to search for MCs for the station's radio and television programs. At that time, I was in my second year of university. I tried to participate, but because I was young and did not have much experience, I could not go far in the competition. At that time, I decided to participate with the spirit of learning and gaining experience.

Luckily, during that casting session, I met the leader of FM90 channel. I asked for information about participating in an internship at the station. Then the student management staff supported the student to make a letter of introduction to send the student to do an internship at the station. I was also very lucky that the school where I was studying always created good conditions for students to practice, although at that time I had not yet had an official internship period. After that, I got acquainted with broadcasting and was given a trial hosting. From that time on, I have been with FM90 until now.

+The first official broadcasts, surely you will have unforgettable memories?

-In the first days I was on air, I was able to participate in sharing on the show as a new guest, at that time the show had a fairly familiar topic. I and the leader hosted a noon show with the topic of food, local dishes, focusing on products from my hometown, thanks to that I had a lot of information to share.

The first program was quite interesting and smooth, the host, guests, and listeners shared quite comfortably. From such programs, I found that the working environment here gave me the ability to integrate very well.

Before, I thought that being an MC only required going up and reading the script, but that's not the case, especially with radio, there is always direct interaction between the people and the radio listeners. And over time, with more and more interaction, I received the trust of a large number of listeners. Many listeners sent letters and gifts to the program. From that, I saw that radio is not too old in the era of technology explosion, but is always cared for, listened to and loved by everyone.

+ But there is also an opinion that "MC is a profession that only requires beauty and speaking skills", what does Hong Hanh think about this statement?

-I think this point of view is correct but also incomplete and a bit one-sided. Regarding beauty, it is true that every profession needs it, having a beautiful appearance will be a better advantage, but it is not the deciding factor. Through my years as an MC, I have found that MCs need skills, orientation and flexible thinking, as online and direct connection programs require many resonant factors.

MCs need to have quick thinking, especially a good knowledge base. Without those factors, it is difficult to say that they have eloquence. Some people have good communication skills, but when talking about different issues and topics, it is not certain that their eloquence can be used.

When hosting high-profile programs live on the radio, MCs must apply many things, the ability to improvise flexibly immediately. Be skillful in every second, have the ability to edit quickly because at the same time the amount of information the audience sends is quite large directly to us without going through any filter, MCs edit, synthesize and transmit information, everything happens immediately, everything sometimes only happens in a few seconds. Therefore, saying that MCs only need appearance and speaking ability is not really accurate, not complete.

Work with enthusiasm and all fatigue will be forgotten.

+ The great attraction of the MC profession is that more and more young people are joining radio and television channels and media and event organizing companies. According to Hong Hanh, what is the biggest challenge of the MC profession?

-In my opinion, the biggest challenge is to assert yourself in broadcasting, build an image with the public and maintain that image. Like many other professions, there will come a time when it will be saturated, and now the MC industry is the same.

Currently, every year, many schools train hundreds of MCs, many private enterprises also do this, the environment for human resources provided for this field is quite large. However, to make a living with the profession and position yourself is not easy. This requires them to make constant efforts and learn continuously.

In reality, there are MCs who have good looks and are good at speaking, but not everyone can make a living with this profession. The most important thing is to choose the right, accurate, and suitable path for yourself. That MC needs to try every day to have a certain positioning of the image that he is building. He needs to constantly strive, work, learn, think more, learn more from his seniors, only then can he survive in this industry.

+ What did Hong Hanh gain and lose when pursuing the MC career, ma'am?

-I see more, but I don't see anything lost, I get to do the job I love, I get to live with my passion. Going to work every day with joy and excitement, all fatigue will be forgotten.

What is even greater is being loved by everyone, hearing many interesting shares from listeners who love the Hanoi Radio program, every day I have access to a lot of new knowledge, learning knowledge about many fields every day. That is what I am extremely excited about.

Every time I go on air, I not only get to share useful information with everyone, but I also get to receive a lot of new and useful information from the audience. I think that if I didn't work as an MC, I would be able to receive information and issues like that.

In addition, to share information with the audience, I have to research myself to have the most correct and accurate information among the myriad of information. Only when I understand the basic knowledge of that content can I convey it completely. The information shared is an important source of knowledge for my daily life. That is a lot of things I have, but I have not lost anything.

+ As an MC, how do you maintain the best spirit to be on air every day, so that the audience can hear Hong Hanh's clear, powerful, and tireless voice?

-After work, I usually spend time on some sports activities, to always have the best working spirit, not to be perfectionist in everything, before going on air, I always try my best. First, I make a plan of what I will do tomorrow? If I have free time, what will I do? I also spend time drafting the content that I will present in the following days.

However, I think that any job requires time to regenerate. I know there are people who work non-stop, work continuously, but I always try to take time to rest for myself, even between programs in a session, a day also needs time to rest. When you are healthy, you will have inspiration for work to go on air with the best mood, when you have good energy, you will spread that energy to the audience.

+ Thank you!
