In recent years, Halal products and services have become increasingly popular and favored globally, opening up many opportunities for Vietnam, including the livestock industry, of which De Heus Vietnam is one of the leading enterprises.

For De Heus, the Halal market potential is huge with a projected population of 2.18 billion by 2030, accounting for about 30% of the world's population. The market size is forecast to reach a maximum of 3.2 trillion USD by 2025, with an annual growth rate of about 6.2%, not only in the Middle East but also in South Asia, West Asia, Africa, and some countries in Southeast Asia.

This is a potential export market for Vietnam's agricultural and livestock products, opening up great opportunities for economic growth and trade cooperation for Vietnamese enterprises to penetrate deeper into the global Halal economy.

Elevating cooperation to develop Halal product chain

De Heus Vietnam Co., Ltd. is a member of De Heus Group (Netherlands), specializing in the production of high-quality animal feed for livestock, poultry and aquatic products, currently owning many factories and transit warehouse systems operating throughout the country. De Heus's output reaches about 3 million tons of feed, aquatic products, livestock and poultry each year.

The Group is focusing on building a chain of links, with the goal of bringing the most optimal value to livestock; at the same time, improving quality, diversifying products in a green direction to promote exports.

Realizing the great potential of the Halal market, over the past years, De Heus has quickly developed a plan to promote exports to countries in the Muslim market.

On March 1, 2024, a new step in developing a Halal-standard agricultural product chain officially began when De Heus Vietnam "joined hands" to cooperate with Ngoc Bich Production Trading Service Co., Ltd. and The World of Knowledge and Connection Co., Ltd.

Under this cooperation agreement, De Heus will provide Halal-certified animal feed and aquaculture feed products to the Ngoc Bich - Knowledge and Connection chain. At the same time, De Heus will continuously update product information so that participating parties can have an overview and flexibly adjust their business plans.

Accordingly, Ngoc Bich conducts high-tech livestock farming, providing Halal-certified livestock and poultry products for export through the Ngoc Bich Halal Chicken farm system. In addition, Ngoc Bich also plays an important role in guiding and inspecting other livestock farmers to follow the correct livestock farming process, creating Halal-certified products and is a collection point for Halal-certified products from De Heus and its partners, to provide raw materials for Knowledge and Connection for export.

During the cooperation process, Knowledge and Connection will act as a consultant and guide for the parties on the production process according to Halal standards. At the same time, Knowledge and Connection will promote products and connect export markets, helping Halal-certified products have the opportunity to effectively access international markets.

With the comprehensive cooperation between De Heus and Ngoc Bich Halal Chicken, the two sides have launched and provided animal feed produced according to specialized processes and modern technological lines according to the standards of the Food and Drug Administration in the United States (FDA), Halal standards.

Ngoc Bich Halal Chicken farm system was officially certified to meet Halal standards on November 6, 2023. This is the first chicken farm system in Vietnam to be trained in Halal broiler production processes and certified to meet Halal standards.

Using clean animal feed produced according to a specialized process from De Heus – Ngoc Bich Halal Chicken aims for a sustainable future for not only the community that loves clean Halal food but also those who care about clean food around the world. Therefore, the source of raw materials for animal feed production is directly grown and harvested by the company from fields in Latin American countries.

Using high quality nutritional products and fully meeting the needs of Halal broilers. With specialized feed products, combined with De Heus' management support, high feed conversion rates, low loss rates, breeding results meet or even exceed the technical goals of breeding companies.

Ngoc Bich Halal Chicken Farm System with more than 10 large farms covering the provinces of the Southeast region is the first chicken farm in the De Heus broiler chain to be trained in the Halal broiler production process and certified to be qualified to produce Halal chicken for export to Muslim countries. The system is developed synchronously and standardized the entire chain, facilities and modern processes according to international standards, meeting the most stringent requirements to meet Halal standards.

In addition, regulations on barns, livestock density, veterinary solutions for disease prevention, and building disease-free livestock areas are also closely coordinated by Ngoc Bich Chicken system with De Heus to ensure and synchronously meet the strictest standards of Halal chicken products with high and stable productivity.

Mastering standards to promote exports

According to the Department of Livestock Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the goal of livestock development in Vietnam in the period of 2030-2045 is to follow a green direction to ensure standards on food origin and food safety when exporting. The Halal market is a demanding market, in addition to technical standards, there is also a belief in these products.

Halal regulations are very concerned with the factory raising and slaughtering according to Islamic regulations, in this stage there must be Muslims performing rituals and participating in some stages of slaughtering, processing... Therefore, when exporting to this market, businesses need to master the technical standards and religious factors to fully meet the requirements of the market.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu - Director of External Relations of De Heus Vietnam Co., Ltd. said that although the Halal market has potential, it is a new market for De Heus as well as Vietnam in general. "Through research, we found that this market is not too difficult but very strict due to the requirements on product quality as well as cultural, religious and spiritual factors.

Halal standards also vary greatly between countries, and some countries do not even recognize the standards of other countries. Therefore, in order to be able to export to diverse markets, the biggest difficulty will be to fully and comprehensively grasp the standards and certifications appropriate to each region and Muslim country,” said Mr. Hieu.

To exploit the export potential to the Halal market for Vietnamese poultry products, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is implementing the assigned tasks in Decision No. 10/QD-TTg dated February 14, 2023 of the Prime Minister approving the Project "Strengthening international cooperation to build and develop Vietnam's Halal industry by 2030".

In particular, the Ministry has contributed to the establishment of a National Halal Center located at the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality (Ministry of Science and Technology) to support legal matters, procedures, and harmonized recognition of international standards, promoting the export of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery products to Halal markets.

With the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, De Heus is currently continuing to develop export-oriented solutions, such as building a disease-free zone in the Southeast region, coordinating with agencies to negotiate veterinary-related issues... to continue to seek opportunities to export more products. Recently, De Heus has also implemented synchronous solutions to export its livestock products to the Muslim market by 2026.
