Breakwaters play an important role in minimizing the impact of waves and currents on wharves.

These days, the Chan May breakwater project phase 2 is being accelerated. Construction units are rushing to deploy the final items to complete and put into use before the rainy season.

Started in October 2022, this is considered a key project of the city. Up to now, relevant units have completed the construction of the temporary wharf; completed dredging and replacing the dike foundation; completed dredging the channel and moving the signal buoys, reaching about 95% of the volume.

According to Mr. Phan Viet Hung, representative of the construction unit, the unit is completing the installation of RAKUNA covering blocks, constructing concrete for the top wall to a height of +4.0m, and monitoring subsidence. After that, concrete will be poured to compensate for subsidence and the next items will be completed to put the project into use...

Recently, Hue city has completed the investment in the construction of the Chan May port breakwater phase 1 with a length of 450m. The effectiveness of this project is clearly seen when the operating time at berths 1, 2, 3 reaches over 97.5% of the total operating time in the year. Safety issues in port operations are also guaranteed...

The Chan May port breakwater project phase 2 alone will be extended by 300m with a total investment of over VND750 billion. Accordingly, the total length of the two phases is 750m. Once completed, it will ensure the effective exploitation of additional berths 4, 5, 6 that are about to be invested in and ensure the improvement of container handling capacity through Chan May port.

Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone is one of the six key economic zones of the country. Of which, Chan May port is one of the important ports of the Central region, playing a role in connecting maritime transport between the region and the world.

In fact, Chan May port in particular and seaports in general are often directly affected by big waves, storms and strong ocean currents. The breakwater project will significantly contribute to minimizing the impact of waves and currents on the wharf; protecting infrastructure such as wharves, yards and warehouses from erosion; ensuring safety for ships entering and leaving the port.

Mr. Dang Phuc Hien, Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects of the City's Industrial Economic Zone, said that after completing the Chan May Port breakwater project phase 2, the entire northern dike line will be completed, contributing to reducing the direct impact of waves from offshore. From there, from wharf 1 to wharf 6 is almost less affected by the weather. The completed project also contributes to ensuring safety for operating seaports, increasing cargo handling capacity and attracting investment in the Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone.

According to Mr. Le Van Tue, Head of the Management Board of Economic and Industrial Zones of the city, with the attention of the central ministries, branches and the city, up to now, the technical infrastructure in the economic and industrial zones has been basically invested synchronously, from the seaport traffic system, electricity supply, water supply, to communications. In particular, the completion of the breakwater projects will meet the investment and production activities of enterprises and create a foundation for the development of Chan May port, as well as contribute to the socio-economic development of the city.
