Belgium's Euro 2024 campaign ended after a 0-1 defeat to France in the round of 16 early on July 2. Captain Kevin De Bruyne clearly showed his dissatisfaction with the result. He lost his temper when answering questions at the post-match press conference.
A reporter asked De Bruyne: "Is it difficult for you when the Belgian golden generation did not reach the final?"
De Bruyne responded with a counter-question for the reporter: "What golden generation?".
The reporter replied that it was the golden generation of Belgium and De Bruyne. The midfielder born in 1991 replied irritably: “My golden generation? So you think France, Spain, England and Germany are not the golden generation? Okay, thanks!”.
Notably, De Bruyne in a fit of rage exclaimed “idiot” before leaving the interview booth. This moment was caught on camera.
Since the second half of the 2010s, the Belgian team has had a squad of top European stars with Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne,... but has not been able to win any major titles.
Euro 2024 is considered the last tournament of the golden generation of the Belgian team.
