Therefore, the project of sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030 in Kien Giang province will open up a new direction for local rice production. "Kien Giang will contribute to the project of 200,000 hectares/1 million hectares to implement a model of high-quality rice production, reducing low emissions, and increasing profits for people," said Mr. Toan.

Mr. Le Thanh Tung - Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development - emphasized that by implementing the above project, farmers will reduce production costs, increase profits by 50%, contribute to environmental protection and climate change adaptation, sustainable production of rice products, contribute to ensuring national food security, and socio-economic development. On this occasion, Kien Giang demonstrated the application of advanced technology in the pilot model of "Rice cultivation to reduce emissions, straw, water and fertilizer management" in the 2024 autumn-winter crop of Thanh Nien Phu Hoa Agricultural Service Cooperative (Tan Hoi commune, Tan Hiep district).
The 1 million hectare rice project will help Kien Giang people benefit.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huynh - Director of Thanh Nien Phu Hoa Agricultural Service Cooperative (in Tan Hoi commune, Tan Hiep district) - said that the cooperative is very honored to be the first unit to launch the project with an area of 50 hectares (25 participating households). The members will be determined to implement this project. In particular, after harvesting the 2024 summer-autumn rice crop, the members of the cooperative commit not to burn straw but instead collect, transport it out of the field, and treat trecdexma. After that, people will clean the fields, plow, harrow, and level the field, sow and mechanize production, improve product quality, guarantee output, and stabilize life. Thereby, Mr. Huynh believes that the above project will create a sustainable step for the rice industry and help people benefit.
