On the afternoon of February 27, Vietnam Aviation Insurance Corporation (VNI) held a ceremony to announce that DB Insurance Company Limited (DBI) under DB Group Korea became a foreign strategic shareholder, owning 75% of VNI's charter capital.
At the end of December 2023, the Department of Insurance Management and Supervision/Ministry of Finance signed Official Letter No. 14506/BTC-QLBH approving in principle for Vietnam Aviation Insurance Corporation (VNI) to transfer shares to DB Insurance and Handicraft Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Artexport). As of January 31, 2024, after the successful transaction, DBI Insurance Korea, owns 75% of shares (equivalent to 75 million shares, accounting for 75% of charter capital) and Handicraft Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Artexport), owns 11.55% of shares (equivalent to 11,550,000 shares, accounting for 11.55% of charter capital) and becomes a major shareholder of VNI.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Le Thi Ha Thanh, Chairwoman of VNI's Board of Directors, affirmed that today's strategic shareholder announcement event is a particularly important milestone for VNI.
“We believe that with DBI - a leading insurance company in Korea, which has a deep understanding of the Vietnamese market, becoming the largest shareholder of VNI, VNI will receive comprehensive support such as corporate governance according to international standards, transferring new, superior products in the Korean market to the Vietnamese market, promoting the application of technology and information security; increasing financial capacity, reinsurance and participating in financial rating systems such as AM Best, S&P. The Chairman believes that VNI will develop sustainably in both revenue scale and business efficiency, quickly conquering the goal of TOP 5 in the non-life insurance industry in Vietnam”, emphasized Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Le Thi Ha Thanh.

At the event, Mr. Park Ki Huyn, Director of DB International Business Division affirmed that the goal is to make VNI a leading insurance company in the Vietnamese insurance market by combining DB's long-standing experience in the insurance business and advanced technology system into operations at VNI.
“First of all, we will dramatically improve VNI's capacity in core areas of operation, including product development, sales and after-sales service, to the highest level in the Vietnamese insurance industry. Second, we pursue a business strategy that puts customer value first, always listens to customer opinions, and promptly provides products and services that customers desire,” emphasized Mr. Park Ki Huyn. At the same time, the representative of the leading Korean insurance company also affirmed that they will join hands to build a corporate culture that is loved by employees, workers and Vietnamese society, achieving the goal of making VNI the leading insurance company in the market while sharing the difficulties of the community and society.

DB Insurance becoming a strategic shareholder will help VNI access a large customer base from Korea and a global network of operations. DBI will support VNI to promote its capacity, develop and upgrade information technology to quickly adapt to changes in the insurance market, especially improving the quality of sales and after-sales services, developing new products, increasing reinsurance capacity, improving the quality of human resources, customer care and creating opportunities to expand and develop VNI in the future. With the "new internal strength", it will help VNI enhance its position, develop quickly, strongly, sustainably and effectively with professional and modern management, aiming for the goal of being in the top 5 non-life insurance companies by 2028.
