Teach children how to behave in public.

The importance of raising children is summarized by our ancestors: "Teach your children from a young age." In parenting, the way parents behave and communicate daily influences 90% of a child's personality development. In particular, the method of education will determine a child's character and behavior throughout their life.

The worry stemming from tolerance

In late March, on a bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet, passengers were disturbed by the noisy antics of two children. The older boy was about 6 years old, and the younger girl was only 3, traveling with their parents, a young couple. While the older child kept whining and demanding to play with a phone, the father remained silent, ignoring him and not bothering to respond.

Sitting in the back seat, the mother, impatient with her child whining and demanding the phone, grumbled to her husband, "Give him the phone to play with, so he'll sit still..." After a moment of silence, ignoring his wife's nagging, the husband finally replied curtly, "The phone's out of battery."

The little boy, not getting his way, started singing loudly, banging his hands on the window frame, standing on his seat, and leaning towards other passengers' seats. The little girl, meanwhile, began wailing and whining for hours. The 25 passengers on the bus, half of whom were foreigners, shook their heads in exasperation, silently enduring the ordeal throughout the journey. Everyone felt bothered but had to patiently tolerate it, because after all, they were just children. The blame lies with the parents of the two children; they didn't try to reason with or comfort them, but instead let the children cry, misbehave, and disturb others.

Teaching children to be understanding...

Ms. Mai Anh, a resident of Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “My family has two children, a 12-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, whom my husband and I have carefully taught. We teach them basic manners and how to interact with others, from family to school and in social life. They need to know how to behave, control their actions and needs, so as not to bother or affect those around them. In public places, they must be thoughtful and cautious in their communication and behavior, and act with moderation.”

In their daily lives, Ms. Mai Anh organizes mealtimes, study times, rest periods, and playtime for her two children quite scientifically . She and her husband often dedicate as much time as possible each day to talking, exchanging ideas, listening to their thoughts, and answering their questions, helping them develop their thinking and way of life to form better personalities over time. Once they understand, their behavior and conduct will naturally become more disciplined and proper; they will know what to do and what not to do, avoiding unnecessary mistakes.

To build a happy family, and for parents to raise well-behaved, filial, and talented children, the Code of Conduct for Families issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism mentions the principle of behavior for parents and grandparents, emphasizing the need to set a good example for their children and grandchildren in their gestures, actions, and words, as well as in their will to cultivate and improve themselves, to be a shining example of morality and character, and a spiritual support for their children.

Parents should not overindulge their children or ignore their mistakes; they need to maintain and foster emotional bonds and closeness; care for and guide their children and grandchildren when they are young; pass on traditional values and life experiences to their descendants; educate and encourage them to live a cultured lifestyle, develop civic consciousness, and uphold family traditions and customs. The example set by grandparents and parents has a very strong and profound impact on the awareness, behavior, thoughts, feelings, and lifestyles of children from childhood to adulthood.

Teaching children to understand right from wrong, and how to behave appropriately both at home and in public, will help them gain self-confidence, a solid foundation of family and social knowledge, and easily achieve good results in communication and interaction. This will create positive feelings and friendly relationships with those around them. It also serves as a foundation for the formation and development of their character, gradually cultivating good habits in their behavior and thinking for their present and future lives.
