Kinhtedothi - Within the framework of the training course on Vietnamese language teaching methods for NVNONN teachers held in Hanoi from December 1 to 15, 2024, on the morning of December 2, a seminar on "Sharing methods of teaching Vietnamese to children abroad" took place.

The activity was organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in coordination with the Vietnam Education Publishing House to enhance exchanges and support overseas Vietnamese teachers in teaching Vietnamese to children abroad.

The main speaker of the Seminar was Dr. Nguyen Thuy Anh, author of the book series "Hello Vietnamese" - a Vietnamese language teaching book series that won the National Book Award A in 2023 and has attracted the attention of many readers at home and abroad.

At the Seminar, Dr. Nguyen Thuy Anh shared her experiences and interesting stories during her time teaching Vietnamese to children abroad.

Students shared and discussed with speaker Thuy Anh and were guided by the author on how to approach and use the "Hello Vietnamese" textbook most effectively; at the same time, they were guided on how to implement some practical activities in the classroom, from how to integrate and attract children's attention to how to create interest in their mother tongue.

“Vietnamese is the heritage that children inherit, not a second language to learn. In an environment where communication is entirely in a foreign language, if we cannot create excitement, it will make children feel pressured and bored. If we want children to learn Vietnamese, we must create motivation and an environment for them, create novelty for them, through which they will be self-aware and develop the spirit of self-learning Vietnamese,” Dr. Nguyen Thuy Anh shared with the students.

Dr. Nguyen Thuy Anh said that when teaching Vietnamese to Vietnamese children abroad, she first tries to "eliminate fear" and moderate the learning content. Each session only provides enough knowledge so that children do not find it too easy and are not too scared.

She believes that it is necessary to create a mindset for children to learn Vietnamese naturally, allowing them to learn while playing, making it easy to remember. Through games with familiar, easy-to-understand Vietnamese keywords, repeated many times and combined with music, etc., to make it easy to remember and create more appeal for language learning.

The seminar took place in a close, useful and practical atmosphere of exchange and sharing; the students actively participated in hypothetical activities and specific pedagogical situations designed by Dr. Nguyen Thuy Anh for learners to experience, draw their own experiences and lessons.

Also within the framework of the Training Course, in order to improve the effectiveness and diversify teaching methods, the State Committee for Non-Governmental Organizations also coordinated with the Vietnam Education Publishing House to organize training for trainees on methods of guiding students to create images (in nursery rhymes, folk songs, poems, etc.), as well as the theory and practice of organizing games in education.
