During the meeting with the EC Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the initiative and congratulated the EU on successfully organizing the Global Gateway Forum, saying that this is a framework for developed and developing countries to cooperate and complement each other towards sustainable development.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam advocates promoting and deepening the Vietnam-EU comprehensive partnership and cooperation framework, and suggested that both sides fully and effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms, deepen the investment and trade pillars through the implementation of the EVFTA, member countries promptly ratify the EVIPA, and the EC promptly remove the IUU yellow card, while expanding cooperation in potential areas such as climate change response and energy transition, especially through the Fair Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) framework.
Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to help the EU connect with the region, and wishes to closely coordinate in implementing the ASEAN-EU strategic partnership as well as in resolving regional and global issues.
Congratulating Vietnam on its success in the "renovation" and development in all aspects, EC Vice President Josep Borrell affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner in the region and assessed that the Vietnam-EU relationship has developed comprehensively, especially in economics and trade, with the effective implementation of the EVFTA Agreement, helping trade turnover increase by 20% in 2022.
The EC Vice President said that there is still much room for cooperation, including in the energy sector; agreed to strengthen comprehensive cooperation between the two sides, especially the full and effective implementation of the EVFTA and other cooperation frameworks; the EC will consider early removal of the yellow card on Vietnam's seafood exports as well as closely coordinate in solving regional and global issues, for peace, stability, cooperation and development of the region and the world; committed to supporting Vietnam within the framework of JETP towards a fair energy transition and sustainable development.
Regarding IUU, the EC Vice President acknowledged Vietnam's positive efforts in recent times and suggested that Vietnam closely coordinate and fully implement the EC's recommendations to soon remove the yellow card.
The two sides shared views on international and regional issues, agreed to maintain peace, stability, freedom, and safety of aviation and navigation, and to resolve disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of international law and the 1982 UNCLOS.

At the meeting with EU Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the role and contribution of the EU in promoting global efforts to respond to climate change, especially providing financial support to developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to climate change; affirmed Vietnam's determination and proactive implementation of commitments at COP26; and requested the EU to continue to closely coordinate to soon complete the Resource Mobilization Plan to implement JETP.
The EU Climate Commissioner asked Vietnam to support the EU's initiatives at COP28, including the Global Commitment on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency; affirming that the EU always accompanies Vietnam in the green transition.
