Promote career counseling for high school students

BHG - Before each admission season, in addition to strengthening review and consolidating knowledge for students, career counseling and career selection are always of special interest to theEducation sector, high schools and parents. In order to support 12th grade students in choosing a career that suits their abilities, personal interests and meets the practical needs of the labor market, high schools actively implement many career counseling solutions.

According to data from the Department of Education and Training, from 2019 to present, the province has organized over 5,400 career counseling sessions for students, teachers and staff, along with 500 propaganda and counseling sessions for parents of students at secondary and high schools. Counseling activities do not only stop at introducing careers, but also aim to raise students' awareness of their own abilities, social needs and long-term career development capabilities. Many schools have proactively coordinated with vocational training institutions, universities and colleges in and outside the province to organize direct exchange and counseling sessions.

At Viet Lam High School (Vi Xuyen), in addition to implementing the content according to the program distribution of the Ministry of Education and Training , the school always requires teachers to proactively plan, develop content and choose appropriate forms of career education for students. Recently, the school has coordinated with the Vietnam Women's Academy to organize a program of admissions and career counseling for students. At the program, students are provided with detailed information about the training majors, enrollment quotas, admission methods, and scholarships of the school. Thereby, helping students, especially grade 12 students, choose a career that suits their abilities and interests for the road ahead.

Teacher Bui Quyet Thang, Secretary of the Youth Union of Viet Lam High School, said: In the 2024-2025 school year, the school has 670 students, including 189 grade 12 students. Career guidance and admissions counseling are always identified by the school as a key task during the school year. Career guidance programs not only provide specific information about majors and admission methods, but also help students better understand future career trends, job opportunities and the necessary skills to adapt to the labor market. In addition, the school also organizes daily integration into class activities, civic education classes, and flag-raising ceremonies to help students have an overview of many different career fields.

Career counseling and guidance sessions are held in a variety of forms.

Nguyen Ngoc Anh, a student at Viet Lam High School, shared: “Through the career orientation and admissions counseling experience, I have realized my strengths and interests. From there, I have determined my future career goals and set out a study plan to pursue the career I want.”

Similarly, Ha Giang Ethnic Boarding School - High School recently coordinated with the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture to organize a seminar on "Journey of entrepreneurship and innovation from high school". Ms. Pham Thi Ha, Vice Principal of the school shared: The seminar is a meaningful activity for the school's students. With the characteristics of students being children of ethnic minorities, access to occupations related to agriculture and rural development is very important. Students are not only provided with information about the training program but also shared about job opportunities in the agricultural sector".

Support from universities and colleges in and outside the province has helped students and parents have a comprehensive view of the future labor market, aware of changes in the nature of work and the skills needed to meet training requirements. At the same time, students also have a better understanding of the process of choosing a career and school scientifically to achieve their career goals.

To make career counseling effective, it is necessary to continue promoting coordination between educational institutions, families, organizations and businesses, in order to help students build a clear learning and career development process, meeting the requirements of society and the future labor market.
