In recent years, households have actively converted livestock farming from small-scale, fragmented to concentrated, helping the local herd of large livestock to develop strongly. A typical example is Mr. Nguyen Quang Vien's household in Loong Tra village, Minh Xuan commune with a model of raising buffaloes and cows in the direction of fattening for sale with a scale of more than 10 heads. Mr. Hoang Van Hue in Lang Thoc village, Yen Thang commune developed a model of raising breeding buffaloes and cows in the direction of concentrated commodity production with a scale of 10 heads or more. Or Mr. Vu Duc Phan's household in Na Hien village, Truc Lau commune with a model of raising buffaloes and cows for sale, at peak the total herd had nearly 20 heads...
Mr. Nguyen Quang Vien in Loong Tra village, Minh Xuan commune shared: "Previously, in addition to raising cattle at home, I often bought buffaloes and cows to sell, so my family regularly maintained a large herd of over ten cattle. In recent years, the price of buffaloes and cows has dropped, making it difficult to sell them. With support for livestock development from Resolution 69 of the Provincial People's Council and having a large garden, I have encouraged my wife and children to plant grass, rebuild barns, expand the area for raising cattle in the direction of selling grazing and taking advantage of the low price of buffaloes and cows to buy more and raise them for fattening to sell for capital turnover."
By implementing a nutritious feeding regimen, his family's livestock quickly became fat. In addition to feeding green grass and starchy foods such as rice bran and corn, he also learned the technique of fermenting grass with cassava to make feed for his livestock, improving economic efficiency. Currently, his family regularly maintains more than 10 animals.
Like Mr. Vien, in order to gradually increase his family's income, along with actively changing the structure of crops and livestock, and intensifying farming, Mr. Vu Duc Phan's family in Na Hien village, Truc Lau commune has invested in planting grass and repairing and expanding barns to develop a model of raising buffalo and cows in the direction of concentrated commodity production.
Mr. Phan shared: "Thanks to the attention and propaganda, the organization of training courses to improve scientific and technical knowledge in animal husbandry at all levels and sectors, it has helped me to renew my thinking, be confident, and boldly change the direction of animal husbandry from small-scale to concentrated commodity production. In 2023, I invested in planting more than a hectare of grass, building barns to raise animals in the direction of semi-grazing, reducing care costs, improving the effectiveness of disease prevention, hunger and cold to reduce many risks. Therefore, although the price of buffaloes and cows has decreased in recent years, my family has always maintained a herd of nearly 20 buffaloes and cows."
Along with mobilizing people to expand livestock farming, Luc Yen has strengthened many propaganda measures, guiding livestock farming households to proactively invest in breeding animals; equipping them with knowledge on disease prevention and control measures; utilizing agricultural waste as animal feed; building solid barns to develop livestock farming in the direction of confinement and semi-grazing, creating strengths for sustainable development.
To gradually improve the quality of livestock, the district focuses on directing specialized departments and offices to proactively coordinate with communes and towns to increase support and advice for livestock farmers to participate in livestock development models by crossbreeding and selecting good breeds; focusing on implementing policies of all levels and sectors on supporting livestock development with people to ensure timely, right people, right objects; encouraging people to build livestock models with concentrated commodity production scale and improve quality, value and economic efficiency.
Promoting livestock farming towards commodities, Luc Yen's livestock herd has developed steadily with the total current main livestock herd of over 121,850 heads; of which, 17,730 buffaloes, 1,820 cows, 102,300 pigs; the total output of fresh meat of all kinds in the district reached over 3,242 tons, contributing significantly to promoting economic development, increasing income for people and building new rural areas in the area.
