The People's Committee of Tanh Linh district has just issued a document requesting relevant units and communes and towns in the area to strengthen solutions to respond to the risk of drought and water shortage, ensuring water supply for production in the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop.

Tanh Linh District People's Committee said that through inspection and monitoring, up to now, the drought and water shortage have significantly affected production in the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop in the district. Due to the very low water source from Da Mi Hydropower Plant (below 20 m3/s), currently in the district there are about 350 - 500 hectares at risk of total loss, the above areas are concentrated in localities such as Dong Kho, Duc Phu, Mang To, Lac Tanh, Gia An...

Therefore, in order to minimize damage, the District People's Committee requests relevant units and People's Committees of communes and towns to review ponds and water reservoirs managed by the locality. If water surfaces are leased to organizations and individuals for aquaculture development, it is necessary to mobilize households to share water to save rice, avoiding the situation of leasing and then not being able to use it in regulating irrigation pumping to fight drought, especially during the peak of the dry season as it is now. Along with that, focus on directing local water use groups to closely follow the irrigation pumping schedule of La Nga Branch to increase water storage during irrigation sessions in low-lying areas, ponds and lakes to prioritize drought relief for areas that often have water shortages. Mobilize people to proactively go to the fields, using all means and measures to save 60-70-day-old rice fields that are in drought.

At the same time, the District People's Committee requested localities to direct the consolidation of water use group activities, mobilize dredging of canals, garbage collection to clear the flow at water intake locations, regulating clusters, assign people to collect water according to the regulation schedule of La Nga Branch to avoid competition for water resources, causing insecurity and disorder. Encourage people to switch and rotate crops to dry crops with short growing periods to save water and avoid water shortages between planting seasons. High-lying fields that are not actively pumped for irrigation must resolutely switch to the main summer-autumn crop to wait for rain, and at the same time direct plowing and drying the soil to kill pathogens and cut off migrating brown planthoppers.

The District People's Committee requested Binh Thuan Irrigation and Water Supply One Member Co., Ltd. - La Nga Branch to make full use of surface water in river basins and streams to store in irrigation reservoirs, ponds, lakes, dams, main canals, and reserve for long-term drought prevention.
