Investing 98 billion VND to renovate and upgrade 13 irrigation works

Việt NamViệt Nam05/09/2024

According to Plan No. 3606/KH-UBND on “Renovation and upgrading of irrigation systems in Phu Tho province until 2030” issued by the Provincial People's Committee on August 30, 2024, an estimated budget of 250 billion VND will be allocated to renovate and upgrade 76 irrigation works and clusters of pumping stations along rivers, lakes, and dams that are damaged or degraded.

Specifically, priority will be given to investing in, renovating, and upgrading 13 key pumping station facilities along the Thao, Lo, Da, and Chay rivers to address the problem of pumping stations experiencing water level drops due to low water levels.

An investment of 98 billion VND will be made to renovate and upgrade 13 irrigation works.

Regular dredging of irrigation canals in Lam Thao district is essential to maximize the effectiveness of irrigation systems.

The province has 2,806 irrigation works, including 5,141 reservoirs and dams, 311 pumping stations, 254 sluice gates with opening and closing mechanisms, and 700 temporary structures. Of these, 105 structures are damaged, with 37 riverside pumping stations having suspended pumps, requiring frequent lowering of the pump base and extension of the suction pipes, rendering them ineffective and failing to ensure irrigation and agricultural production; 4 pumping stations have severely damaged and degraded suction and discharge tanks and pipelines, operating inefficiently; 63 reservoirs and dams suffer from seepage through sluice gates, damaged sluice gates, seepage through the dam body and abutments, dam slope erosion, concrete cracks along the dam face, dam face subsidence, and damaged spillways; and 1 structure lacks a water supply system for production.

Due to limited funding, investment, renovation, and upgrading projects need to be focused and prioritized, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Priority will be given to 13 key projects and clusters of pumping stations along the Thao, Lo, Da, and Chay rivers; and the water pipeline system for Cu Lake in Thanh Son district, with an estimated cost of 98 billion VND (an average of 16.33 billion VND per year). In addition, investments will be made gradually to renovate and upgrade 63 reservoirs and dams with an estimated cost of 152 billion VND. Funding will come from the State budget and other legal sources.

The renovation and upgrading of damaged and degraded reservoir and dam systems aims to ensure safety and proactively supply water for production and daily life of the people.
