On the afternoon of March 8, at the Radio Frequency Department building, National Joint Auction Company No. 5 held an auction for the right to use radio frequencies for the B1 band (2,500-2,600 MHz).
Attending the auction were Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung, Director of the Department of Radio Frequency (Ministry of Information and Communications) Le Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Judicial Support (Ministry of Justice) Le Van Tuan, representatives of agencies and units under the Ministry of Information and Communications and enterprises participating in the auction.
Speaking at the opening of the auction, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung said that this event is of great significance to the information and communications industry, expected to open a new era for 5G, which is the basis for developing digital infrastructure, serving the national digital transformation.
On January 11, 2024, the Prime Minister approved Vietnam's Information and Communications Infrastructure Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. The plan sets a target of achieving an average download speed of at least 100 Mbps for 5G networks by 2025, and 5G networks covering 99% of the population by 2030.
The Ministry of Information and Communications has set out a direction for 2024, which is the year of universalizing digital infrastructure. Vietnam's digital infrastructure must have super-large capacity, super-wide bandwidth, be universal, sustainable, green, smart, open and secure.
This infrastructure must be prioritized for investment, modernization and a step ahead to promote national digital transformation, develop the digital economy and digital society. Therefore, 2024 is the right time to license 5G commercial bands to implement the above goal.
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung, recently, the Ministry of Information and Communications has made efforts to coordinate with ministries and branches, and propose to competent authorities to perfect the institution on auctioning the right to use radio frequencies.
Careful preparation in all aspects not only demonstrates the commitment of the Ministry of Information and Communications in promoting the development of the telecommunications industry, but also serves as a solid foundation for businesses participating in the auction to develop 5G commercialization, contributing to the overall development of the country.
