After more than 10 years of efforts and development, Moc Chau tourism has developed remarkably, becoming a dynamic and potential tourist destination in the Northwest region. In 2014, Moc Chau had nearly 100 accommodation establishments, welcoming 700,000 visitors/year; total revenue from tourism activities reached 480 billion VND. By 2023, Moc Chau national tourist area will have grown remarkably with 324 accommodation establishments, welcoming 2.5 million visitors, total revenue from tourism services reaching over 3,000 billion VND.
Moc Chau has a chance to break out
Tourism businesses believe that Moc Chau (Son La) is facing the opportunity to become a new destination for MICE tourism (tourism combining conferences, seminars, exhibitions, events, awards, etc.) with ready tourism service infrastructure and a convenient location, easy to access by road from Hanoi.
As a unit specializing in organizing MICE tourism, Mr. Vu Tien Van - Director of Dai Viet International Trade and Service Joint Stock Company (https://adavigo.com) said that summer is the peak season for MICE tourism when many agencies and businesses organize tours for employees combined with MICE activities, team-building games to strengthen solidarity, motivate, reward and convey corporate culture.
"However, this year, due to the impact of high airfares, businesses are having difficulty choosing summer travel destinations. Meanwhile, Moc Chau has the advantage of nature, cool climate and proximity to Hanoi, which can fully meet the needs of MICE visitors. Having just been recognized as a national tourist area and in the near future, it is the peak of summer tourism, this is a great opportunity and Moc Chau needs to seize it immediately" - Mr. Vu Tien Van commented.
Accompanying Moc Chau tourism, recently many tourism businesses in Hanoi have joined hands to sign contracts with service providers in Moc Chau, such as Adavigo Company signed a contract with Moc Chau Group to form new products to serve diverse customer segments, especially MICE tourism.
"We have successfully organized many MICE groups to Moc Chau. The highlight is Moc Chau Island tourist area, which can organize large events with thousands of people. The natural scenery and fresh, cool air are also big pluses of Moc Chau, suitable for the current trend of returning to nature. However, Moc Chau still needs more 4-5 star accommodation facilities as well as large event centers," Mr. Van added.
Worthy of national tourist area
In 2022, Moc Chau received the award for Asia's Leading Local Natural Destination from the World Travel Awards for the first time. At that time, Mr. Graham Cooke - Chairman of the World Travel Awards said: "Moc Chau was voted the most because this place possesses a rich ecosystem that has created amazing natural landscapes. The diverse culture in Moc Chau will help this place become a growth engine for Vietnam's tourism industry".
After being recognized as a National Tourist Area in April 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Vice Chairman of Moc Chau District People's Committee affirmed that the local government, together with tourism companies, businesses... will have to continue to improve and enhance the criteria to be worthy of the National Tourist Area. It is necessary to better protect natural resources and the environment so that Moc Chau can retain the title of Top Natural Destination.
MICE tourism is also one of the goals of Moc Chau tourism. In recent years, Moc Chau has demonstrated its ability to welcome groups of guests as well as host major events. Many tourist areas and spots are well-suited for large events of up to several thousand people. A typical example is the Vietnam Trail Marathon with the participation of 3,000 - 4,000 athletes from countries and territories around the world, contributing to effectively promoting Moc Chau tourism.
Currently, many typical tourism products have been formed, creating and attracting tourists to Moc Chau national tourist area. A typical example is Moc Chau Island tourist area of 26 Moc Chau Tourism Joint Stock Company - where Bach Long glass bridge holds many world records.
There are also destinations with diverse experiences such as the high-class resort of Phuong Hoang - Ban Ang pine forest; Eco-tourism site of Dai Yem Waterfall - Love Glass Bridge; Walking Street - Moc Chau Night Market; Chieng Di 1 and Chieng Di 2 markets...
Many projects related to Moc Chau National Tourist Area have been implemented such as: Renovation and upgrading of the main traffic route to the pine forest tourist area in Ang village, Dong Sang commune, Moc Chau; traffic route connecting Pa Cop Ecological Forest tourist site, Van Ho commune to the center of Chieng Xuan commune, Van Ho district; investment in the construction of Moc Chau National Tourist Area from the central budget.
