New mark of "Saddle Poetry" excites fans of reformed opera

Artists participating in the play "Saddle Poetry" were cheered by the public on the evening of April 19.

On the evening of April 19, a large audience came to watch and cheer for the classic ancient play of the Minh To family "The poem of the saddle" (author Hoang Yen, adapted by Ngoc Van, Thanh Tong, directed by Meritorious Artist Hoa Ha, invested by: Dai Viet New Cai Luong Stage) at Tran Huu Trang Theater.

With a new staging, retelling one of the most heroic historical periods of the Ly Dynasty in the history of the nation, the work is admired by the public because director Hoa Ha presents a new perspective full of humanity in the famous war against the Song army at the Nhu Nguyet River (Cau River) and between the royal family members who put aside personal feelings towards the independence and territorial integrity of the Fatherland.

The character Ly Thuong Kiet, performed by Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam, once again proves his maturity when he was supervised by director Hoa Ha, so that each lyric and dance move was smooth and captivating to the audience.

The character Y Lan of People's Artist Que Tran was warmly cheered by the audience every time she appeared, because each line and song she portrayed was as majestic as the character's breath and flesh, penetrating the hearts of the public and the public loved and was passionate about this role - one of the creations of the Minh To family, which was the first to Vietnamize the national identity, stripping away all the borrowings from Ho Quang reformed opera to create Vietnamese historical plays in the pure style of People's Artist Thanh Tong - her father.

The character of Empress Thuong Duong by Meritorious Artist Tu Suong is explained more humanely, very real and clearly shows the emotion when she realizes that her indifference and gullibility have caused unpredictable consequences, making the army and people panic when she colluded with foreign countries. This is a fictional detail but reasonable, reasonable, proving the chaotic historical period between national debt and family love, between internal and external enemies, which if there is no solidarity and unity will lead to the destruction of the Ly dynasty. Meritorious Artist Tu Suong acts in great detail, exploiting from remorse to arrogance, pride for a queen who wants to hold power, jealousy, envy, and resentment towards Y Lan. Clearly portraying these emotional and psychological levels, it can only be said that Meritorious Artist Tu Suong has carefully researched the new perspective that director Hoa Ha wants to change the appearance of the work through this character.

The audience cheered loudly with applause during the performance on the Nhu Nguyet River defense line. Ly Thuong Kiet wrote a poem that, to this day, is the first declaration of independence of the Fatherland: "The mountains and rivers of the South belong to the Southern Emperor/The fate is clearly determined in the book of heaven/How could the rebels come to invade/You all should be afraid of their defeat and destruction".

The audience read with the character, cried and joined in the spirit of pride, entering not only the military history but also the literary history of the immortal poem.

And the music has been impressively handled, affirming a new editing table with a very reasonable arrangement and structure, exploiting the hidden aspects to help the audience better understand the situations leading to conflict.

The scenery and costumes are gorgeous, that is the outstanding advantage in the new version of the passionate reconstruction by the producer Hoang Song Viet when he invested. Even though it was expensive, he still played it extravagantly to achieve artistic effect.

The play "The Poem of the Horse Saddle" recounts a heroic period with characters intertwined in the turmoil of the times, love and hate, good and evil, strength and weakness, conflicts of interests, choices, sacrifices... Behind the feat of Ly Thuong Kiet is the fate of the Fatherland, and at the same time the fate of many people when they put aside their egos to accompany the nation, repelling the invaders.

The character Ly Dao Thanh this time is played by Meritorious Artist Chi Linh. He tried to do something different and more novel in the scene of the trial of Queen Thuong Duong.

This is what makes the play new, but in the hearts of the audience through different stages, they still love and cherish the unique creation of People's Artist Thanh Tong. Because, with just this stage, the work's echo has spread to foreign lands, and has been brought to Europe by People's Artist Thanh Tong, People's Artist Bach Tuyet, People's Artist Ngoc Giau, People's Artist Thanh Kim Hue, People's Artist Le Thuy... to perform in February 1984, just two years after People's Artist Thanh Tong successfully staged this work on the stage of the Minh To ancient opera troupe.

The play also saw great efforts from artists: Meritorious Artist Bao Tri, Artist Dien Trung, Le Thanh Thao, Chi Cuong, Minh Truong, Truong Loc, Nha Thy, Hong Quyen, Tu Quyen, Trong Hieu, Huu Tai...

They have brought a very beautiful picture of Vietnamese Cai Luong history. At the request of many audiences, the play "The Poem of the Horse Saddle" will be re-performed on the evening of May 10 at Tran Huu Trang Theater.
