These days, at the Spring Flower Market held at the Central Communication and Culture Square in Mong Cai City, ornamental plants for Tet (Lunar New Year) such as peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and kumquats are being sold in abundance.
According to the vendors, the peach and kumquat trees sold at this Spring flower market mainly come from inland gardens in Quang Ninh province or from Nam Dinh and Hai Duong provinces…
A rather unusual feature of this flower market is that it only sells peach blossoms, kumquats, and apricot blossoms; very few vendors sell other types of fresh flowers such as orchids, roses, or chrysanthemums.

Mr. Pham Anh Hung, a resident of Hai Yen ward, Mong Cai city, recently offered for sale some beautifully shaped yellow apricot blossom trees, introducing them as having many varieties of yellow apricot blossoms in his family's garden.
The most expensive tree costs over ten million dong, while the cheapest is over one million. According to Mr. Hung, the apricot and peach blossoms this year are large and beautiful.
Mr. Pham Anh Hung is offering his family's yellow apricot blossom tree for sale, valued at 5 million VND.
"This year the weather is favorable, the apricot blossoms and buds are very beautiful. Therefore, they are selling very well. I only brought nearly 100 trees here two days ago and have already sold several dozen," Mr. Hung said.
While trimming the leaves of his peach blossom trees with some friends, Mr. Le Kim Binh, a garden owner in Kinh Mon district, Hai Duong province, said that this was the first time he and his friends had brought peach blossom branches to sell in Mong Cai city. Because it was their first time, Mr. Binh only brought 100 branches of peach blossoms…
"The shipping cost to get here is higher than to other areas of Quang Ninh, so the price of each peach blossom branch sold in Mong Cai City is also about 50-70 thousand dong higher. From yesterday until now, we've sold more than 20 branches. After deducting expenses, we've made a profit of 300-500 thousand dong per branch. With this kind of demand, we're sure to sell out before the 28th of Tet," Hung affirmed.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga's family quickly found a kumquat tree they liked and that fit their budget.
While choosing kumquat trees with her husband at a corner of the Tet flower market, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, a resident of Hai Yen ward, Mong Cai city, commented: "This year, both peach blossoms and kumquats are very beautiful, and the prices are also suitable for our budget."
"In the years following the Covid-19 pandemic, my family's life and income were greatly affected, so we had to limit our spending during Tet. This year, with better work and income, my husband and I bought some flowers and ornamental plants to decorate for Tet," Ms. Nga said.
While at a corner of the market, a reporter from Giao Thong Newspaper happened to meet Mr. Ho Mun Sang (born in 1985, residing at Group 1, Zone 5, Hai Yen Ward, Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh) - who had been assaulted by the bus conductor and driver on a Hanoi -Quang Ninh passenger bus, resulting in a broken finger and multiple injuries to his face and head, with 9% disability.
Mr. Sang said that after the Traffic Newspaper published a series of articles reflecting on this incident, the vehicle owner compensated him for his health with a total of 68 million VND.

Currently, Mr. Sang works as a tour guide while his wife sells fruits. This year, the number of tourists visiting Mong Cai City has increased, so their income is stable.
"I just brought a group of tourists back from China. Passing by the flower market, I saw many beautiful peach blossoms and kumquats, so I stopped to buy some," Mr. Sang said.
