(CLO) In the context of strong technological development, cinema has also entered a new era with the support of artificial intelligence (AI). One of the pioneers in this trend is 9X director Pham Vinh Khuong. With a breakthrough mindset, he not only turns AI into a creative tool but also uses it to preserve and spread traditional Vietnamese culture in the most modern way.

The Father of the 'True Smartphone Film' Style

Director Pham Vinh Khuong shared that he is the first person in the world to make a complete film using AI technology, and he is also the father of the "True Smartphone Film" style - a minimalist approach that helps independent filmmakers create quality works without the need for expensive equipment.

With more than 20 years of experience in mobile technology, he sees smartphones not only as a filming tool but also as a miniature studio in the hands of artists. "Creativity is not limited by tools, but only by our own thinking," said the 9X director.

Not only is he the one who laid the foundation for the trend of making films with AI, the young 9X director Pham Vinh Khuong also proves the true potential of this technology through revolutionary projects. One of his important marks is the MV "The Flame of Steel", in collaboration with singer Tung Duong.

Not only is this a product created entirely by AI, but it has also become the most viewed AI-based MV in the world at the moment with over 1 million views. This project opens up a new approach, where AI not only supports production but also contributes to shaping the style of visual storytelling.

Director Pham Vinh Khuong said: "If in the past, AI was mainly used to create special effects, the MV "Steel Flame" has proven that AI can also create emotional and artistically profound films."

Using AI to spread traditional Vietnamese values

Not only focusing on experimental technology projects, Pham Vinh Khuong also utilizes AI to preserve and spread traditional Vietnamese values. A typical example is the project "Cheo Moi Lua Ra".

Stemming from his passion for the art of Cheo – a form of folk theater that is gradually fading away in the digital age – director Pham Vinh Khuong used AI to recreate the image of ancient military culture, combining it with valuable documents and blending Cheo with modern Epic music. "Preserving culture is not about keeping it in a museum, but letting it continue to live in the new era," the 9X director emphasized.

According to the 9X director, this approach not only helps Cheo become closer to the younger generation but also opens up a new direction in preserving traditional art with technology.

One of the biggest projects that Pham Vinh Khuong is working on is "The Declaration" - a work released on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

"Unlike conventional historical MVs, 'The Declaration' will combine AI, virtual reality (AR) and 3D cinematic style to recreate heroic moments of the nation. This project is not only nostalgic but also sends a message about the future, affirming the indomitable spirit of Vietnam in the digital age," director Pham Vinh Khuong revealed.

To realize this idea, director Pham Vinh Khuong collaborated with many domestic and international photographers and artists to bring the highest quality images and sounds. "We must not only be proud of the past, but also continue to build a stronger Vietnam," he added.

However, despite being a pioneer in using AI technology in cinema, 9X director Pham Vinh Khuong still affirms that AI cannot replace humans. "AI can help save time, human resources and production costs, but it is humans that create depth for the work. Don't let AI lead you, let you lead AI," he emphasized.

Director Pham Vinh Khuong also encouraged young people to boldly experiment with AI tools on smartphones to create content, but the most important thing is still the ideas, emotions and messages that each person wants to convey to the public.

With his bold steps, Pham Vinh Khuong not only opened a new direction for cinema but also created a revolution in the way artists approach technology. Thereby, contributing to spreading Vietnamese culture in a unique, modern and most advanced style.

Director Pham Vinh Khuong (stage name PaulDolly), born in 1992 in Ho Chi Minh City. Before the MV "White Shirt After White Night", he made the MV "Cheo Moi Lai Ra", the MV "Buc Tranh Dai Viet", honoring the cultural, historical and national values of Vietnam, the MV "Tiec Trang" - a music product using AI - promoting child protection and "Mat Bao" - a music product using AI - for people in flood-affected areas.

Most recently, he released a 3D animated music video entirely powered by AI, lasting over 4 minutes. He is one of the pioneers in using AI to create films in this field.
